This is silly money, but it is super nice!

Since I’ve now got the 02, an E9 has been moved into (if you find a good deal, snatch it) territory.

Any of you read that article a year or so ago about the guy who basically ruined his life buying hundreds of classic B immers? Doing my best, not to follow in his footsteps.

I’m just enamored by their simplicity. When I was underneath the 02 trying to fit the new exhaust (that needs to be modified before it will actually fit) I was almost giggling to myself, it’s like an R/C car! Every component is so easily identifiable, it’s easy to see how you would go about removing/re-installing those components, and I think I could re wire the entire car in a weekend.

When I get under the E46, I’m like “Fuck, I have to take all of this stuff off before I can even see what I need and everything I’m removing is expensive etc...

Some friends of my folks spent years restoring an E9 to absolute perfection. Knowing I was a BMW nut they invited me down to check it out after it was finished. Before I had a chance to check it out some moron, yakking away on their phone, ran a red light and t-boned them. They were OK, but the car was a total loss. Destroyed one month after it was finished, one week before I was to check it out :(

Very nice car…..not having original engine nor transmission seems to have zero bearing on value? Guess rust issues on these cars, which this car does not suffer, far outweigh “drive-train replaced” concerns?

Its amazing how much they've changed over the past several decades, though this isn't iaolated to BMW. This describes pretty much every car.
