You guys and gals in North America and Australasia get the Hyundai Elantra, to us in Europe it’s sold as the Hyundai i30.
I knew you lot got the five door hatchback (GT) and the saloon. While we got the regular hatchback and estate.
Well it turns out we also get a more saloon car looking hatchback (whilst still not being a saloon/sedan).
I only found this out when looking at the Hyundai U.K. website.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Looking for the Hyundai Kona. I saw the Elantra to you, known as the Hyundai i30 Fastback here.
Also there is, like the i30, an N version.
Though of the 71 Hyundai i30 N Performance vehicles on Autotrader U.K., none of them are the fastback variety, they are all hatchbacks.

Dammit Hyundai USA
Well at least we get the hatch. I hate how that fastback looks, btw.
That i30N hatch is

An Elantra GT was my second choice when I got the Jetta. It’s nice, just not *as* nice.

Me with my silly regular Elantra sedan is drooling over the fastback you dislike.

I’d drive that i30 N hatch.

Hmm so an i30 N fastback may end up being a completely unnoticed unicorn in a few years eh?
Almost makes me want to buy one.

I guess that’s why there are no new or used i30 N Fastbacks on Autotrader.
I sort of like that the Fastback exists for the family that’s want’s something a little sporty but more space than the GT.
But ye’, not my thing.

Oh that’s weird. The fastback sedan thing looks so chonky.

That Fastback/liftback styling doesn’t work on every car. The BMW 3 and 5 GT s(puke) are the worst offenders but looks so good on the 4 series GC

The GT looks good, if I was wanting something like it, I’d go for the SEAT Leon though.
We no longer get the Jetta, so it’d be a Skoda Octavia for me.

I’d love to drive an N, but I’m even more interested in what the higher spec regular i30s are like with the dual clutch.
I’ve been driving my insurance rental i30 (base 2.0L) for a few weeks now and it’s a lovely car with a decent amount of power ruined by a slow, unsure automatic. “Sport mode” attempts to help by cruising constantly at a lower gear with the revs uncomfortably high.

Ye’, it looks a little off at the back. The boot looks a little short and out of place.

I’m not a fan of the 6 Series GT also.
Ye’, some can do liftbacks/fastbacks, like Skoda, while others can’t.
Rapid (though actually a rebadged SEAT Toledo)
Octavia

The SEAT ones I like.
I prefer the previous look of the current generation
I’m not keen on the facelifted Octavia

Seriously never driven any auto? That’s amazing. Props to the UK!

Honestly never driven an auto, I don’t want to either. I like the control and response of a manual, changing gears when I feel or hear the engine tell me (granted the dashboard does light up a suggested gear but I don’t pay much attention unless it suggests a gear I don’t want to be in and then I grumble to myself about stupid technology. Lol. .
There seems to be more autos about which used to only be in large German cars or large executive cars but they are appearing more in smaller cars. I hear the VW DSG is a great gearbox but I’ll stick with the manual thanks, I’ve already had to give up the manual handbrake lever for two buttons near the gear shift. That’s enough for me.

Hopefully the new Skoda face will be adopted onto the Octavia soon.
Fabia,
Scala,
AutoExpress has put these images up of a possible new gen later this year.
EDIT:: This is why I love Skoda.
Skoda might have been tempted to axe the 1.0 from the Octavia’s range – reflecting its positioning above the Scala in the line-up – but Strube (Skoda’s board member for technical development, Christian Strube) said: “We won’t drop the smaller engines. We are not premium. Octavia will be a normal car for normal people – a smart choice.”
