I’m in Europe for work in February and I have a weekend to kill. I’ll be in southeast Holland on Friday afternoon, and need to be in central Austria on Monday morning. That’s driveable: 10 hours if you take the boring route and weather co-operates, so a nice weekend drive taking the more interesting routes. But the relocation fee makes doing it in a rental car prohibitive. So I’ll probably fly, which gives me a day and a half to kill somewhere. But I’ve already done Amsterdam and Vienna to death, so I want to go somewhere else for a change.
So Oppo, what would you do for a weekend in February, given the start and end points and the need to return any rental car to where I got it from (which doesn’t need to be Amsterdam or Vienna - plenty of places accessible by train from either of those).
To forestall the obvious: yes, the Ring’s accessible, but it’s closed :-(.

Which area/city do you roughly mean by s outheast Holland? Depending on that I can probably recommend somethings to see/do

Helmond. Flying into Amsterdam Friday morning then taking the train or driving there for an afternoon meeting.

That’s pretty close to where I grew up!
Depending on the amount of time you have, I’d recommend checking out another city along your route (or slightly off it). The trains from Amsterdam to Helmond, will take you through Utrecht, ‘s-Hertogenbosch and Eindhoven. The first two are older cities, so have plenty of sights to see. Eindhoven is more of a modern Tech meets Art kind of town, so it’s a bit more hipstery. If you have some more time left, you could also decide to travel further south to Maastricht, or to travel further west to Breda, the Hague or Leiden(my current city) (you could take a different set of trains to Helmond in that case)
Let me know if you need anything more specific for a city

It might be interesting to take the train to Vienna and plan a couple hour-/half day-long stops along the way? (Or focus on one bigger stop)
From memory, depending on the train(s) you take, you can go through Cologne, Frankfurt, Wurzburg, Nurnberg and/or Munich.

Helmond is quite a small city, venture slightly further south, well west really to Eindhoven, it’s a ten minute train ride from Helmond to Eindhoven. From there, S-Hertogenbosch (larger again) is a 20 minute train ride north.
