From a half hour north of Denver, from a Powershot SX620HS on a tripod, zoomed to it’s 25x optical max. This was about the best one I think of the batch. Below, we see progression of the night.
First decent image that wasn’t a whiteish nerf ball.
I eventually got a decent and not so fuzzilicious shot. As things got darker, so did the image. I didn’t consider that and fiddling with settings on a bright menu screen isn’t what I wanted to do so I just shot.
And that was the last one. Darker means not as good stuff for the camera to work with. So that was fun. In-Laws were visiting. The kids were up to see and we had some decent binoculars. Memorable fun.

Those early eclipse shots are impossible to keep from blowing out the bright half. I think that most of the really good shots you see are composites, with one shot metered for the umbra and the other metered for the bright half. Cameras can’t handle the light and dark contrasts the way the human eye can.

Wait. So what your saying is, we should make camera lenses out of human eyes?

The eye is a far superior camera.
