Seems you are a big fan of Toyotas that aren’t Toyotas. Or probably more accurately, you just want a reliable , small, practical, somewhat quirky car.

I like cars that are a little quirky. I’d love to have that 1st Gen Scion xB if only the seller would get back to me.
Another aspect... all these cars use the same oil filter that the Suzuki Aerio used. I have 6-7 of them that I bought in bulk for the Aerio.
I also wanted to look at a bright yellow Suzuki Aerio SX, but it was sold before I could get to it.

I think a lot of people overlook the Vibe, as it’s branded as a Pontiac, which isn’t searched for as often as Toyota. We had one, and it was quite a decent little car. A bit gutless, but it served us well.

Have you driven a Vibe before? If not I’d suggest that you take it out on the highway for a bit if you’ll be doing any highway time . Years ago I drove a rental Matrix, which of course is a twin to the Vibe, in Los Angeles area traffic and it was no bueno, I just did not feel like it was stable at 65 mph, nor did I have good visibility out the back . Could be I just don’t often drive high-waisted vehicles, though, as I also drove an Element and felt it had no business on the highway either. Good luck with your purchase.

And that 2009 Vibe... if it’s truly a base model as listed in the Ad, that also means it has no A/C... which is fine by me and goes a long way to explaining the relatively cheap price given the age and mileage.

I’ve driven a Vibe/Matrix before... I recall them being fine in terms of handling, a bit gutless compared to Focus or Mazda3 from the same era.
If you’re used to big cars like a Dodge Charger and then drive a Vibe, yeah, you probably won’t like it.
But I’m the type who likes to drive a slow car fast and I’m used to small cars.
But yeah, I test drive all cars before buying. In this price bracket, you absolutely have to. I also check the fluids, engine bay and crawl under them to have a good look as well.
I’ve avoided some very questionable cars by doing that.

Yours must have had problems. We’ve had ours for 3 years, never had any sensation of instability even over 80 mph.

If you can find a 1st gen Vibe GT, all the better. It’ll have the 2ZZ instead of the 1ZZ, gives it some life. Stay away from early models on the first gen unless you get it checked out. Some of those old 1ZZs had oil consumption issues. That’s why I bought an ‘08.

Though I’d love a Vibe GT or Matrix XRS, I’m more biased to getting the regular one as they are more common and thus, more likely to be easier/cheaper to service. For one thing, the GT/XRS has 17" wheels vs 16" for the regular model.

A lot of things can cause handling issues ... even a bad tire.
My Aerio had an issue with pulling to the right after I rotated the tires. One of rears had been previously patched. It was fine on the back, but on the front, it caused pulling to one side. After swapping the tires back, the pull went away.
