Just unveiled for Canada with fall availability. The GT version has the usual 1.6 Turbo good for 201 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque, while the efficiency-minded 2.0-liter makes 147 hp and 132 lb-ft of torque. Two transmissions are also available — a seven-speed dual clutch and a new Intelligent Variable CVT. No manual announced no US release date announced. Could end up being a nice luke warm hatch like the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! (which had a ma nual option) that no one bought.

Looks like an SUV x.x

I think instead of bringing the European Ceed over directly,
They mish-mashed this with the pro’ceed wagon
That being said, the only “SUV” this reminds me of somewhat loosely is the BMW X2 which is nothing more than a hatchback itself

what?

Looks super tall and high off the ground, especially in the rear three quarter pic.

That just means they'll sell a ton of them.

The US shouldn’t be getting the new Forte hatch. W e are the only market that bought the the Soul and the new one is honestly a square Forte desig ned to be our sporty hatchback. If we need more fuel econony and comfort then they are pushing us towards the Niro. There is also a small crossover similar to the AWD Kona coming to sit below the Sportage.
Co mpact hatchbacks are dying off like fron t-engined hardtop convertibles, FWD coupes, FWD wagons , and sport trucks (RWD, single cab, short bed). Only the FWD-only brands will offer affordable hatches since they function as low-halo models.

I like it. Hmmmm this or a new Mazda 3?

Depends on whether you like seeing out of the back or not , prefer NA or Turbo and want a “premium” interior or typical Korean car interior.

That is great. Would gladly take this over an Elantra GT. Really the only Kia I wouldn’t take over it’s Hyundai/Genesis counterpart is the (hot take inbound ) Stinger.

So Mazda 3 it is.

This is the worst looking car I have seen in a long time. Sorry I have nothing constructive to add. I mean I want to like it because decently powerful wagon thing but... sorry it’s just... holy shit that’s hideous.

I wonder if the Elantra Sport and GT are finito. There’s no more Sport option on the refreshed 2019 Elantra configurator and no 2019 option at all on the Elantra GT configurator.
At least the same basic options as the Elantra Sport can be had in the Veloster, and soon will be available in both sedan and hatch Forte and the 2020 Soul.
What I really want is an i30 N Performance Pack with a DCT and a sunroof. That would be my perfect DC suburbs kickaround car. Hell, I could deal with a Veloster if it at least had a sunroof. The scrunched-up back end of the current Veloster is too claustrophobic for me since they removed the Prius-style split hatch glass from the original. At least with a sunroof it feels reasonably airy inside. But that’s only available on the non-N Veloster.
