I was told he was a ‘less than 30lbs terrier lap dog’ from his original rescue, then a ‘very small heeler/pointer’ from a secondary rescue, and a rat terrier from my vet. BUT, he’s 4.5 months old and 30lbs (was 9lbs at 9 weeks). What do you think he is? Am I going to have a biggen or a lapper? Has he stopped growing? I think his age is spot on.

Your dog is already heavier than both of mine put together.

I can’t tell when dog breeds are mixed, I’m afraid.
He’s a cutie and your good for each other. Anything else is inconsequential.
Take care of each other.
I’ll say TTFN as I’m off up the wooden hills to Bedfordshire to catch some zzz’s.

72.5lbs, just like the other poll I participated in ;) But seriously, based on the size of him now and stuff, I’d guess at least 50 and at most 75. But you have to remember, the weight doesn’
t always equate to the
m being bigger in size, I have 2 labs, one is tall and slender and the other is short an fat, same weight though because the taller one has more muscle mass.

He looks like a rat terrier, or maybe a fox terrier (smooth), but he’s already too big, and that tail is on the long side with that curl, so he probably has something bigger in him. The good news is that if he’s half terrier he hopefully won’t get a ton bigger. At 4.5 months, he probably still has some more growing in him, but just looking him, he doesn’t really resemble any big breeds, so I’d hope he’d stop somewhere between 40 and 50. Or maybe he’s a few months older than you think.
There are dog DNA kits that can tell you about breed composition, but they are expensive. Someone on groupthink did get one for $50 on Black Friday, but normally they are over a hundred.

Looks like a mighty fine specimen of the classic American Mutt. I love dogs dappled with those subtle spots, like soot dusted across fresh snow.
I think he’ll end up 55-60 lbs. Better start working your quads.

Be careful, it could be a biggun’ AND think it’s a lap dog. My G reat Dan e is positive she’s a lap dog.

Pointer/terrier is what he looks like to me. He’s not done growing...

This summarizes what I would say based on my regal mutt.
32 pound unknown mix (as time has gone on I think smooth fox terrier is in there), was done growing at about 5-6 months. Shamoono non’s looks very similar to mine.

I was curious about that - whether small mixed breeds stop growing earlier than average. When you look small breeds up they are nowhere near 30lbs at 4 months, but what about mixed breeds? I run at night so was a little delighted to see he was going to at least hit 30, but as he hit 30 I started wondering if it’s going to continue to 60-70 :(. I LOVE big dogs, but a little nervous about one in my second floor condo. My pit maxed out at 40lbs, one of those squat little things. I love this dog regardless but crossing my fingers for less than 50lbs.

My last dog was a pit and could run 5 miles a night at 12 year old! I’ve slacked since his illness but looking forward to working out with my new guy when he gets of age , bigge n or smalle n.

Well, dang, big boi. Not a lap dog at all. My boy actually has been tipping the scales at 38 pounds recently, and I don’t think it’s fat, but he only just plateaued at 4 years (his chest kept getting deeper) . So you might be looking at 70 pounds in the end? No lap dog, even if he wants to be.
Current puppy pic for perspective?
