I’ve now had my brand-new 2019 VW Jetta S for !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , and I must say that I am surprised by how much I like it. I’ve averaged 38.5 MPG with mixed driving and the car is actually a nice place to be. Ask me any questions you may have about it.

What? When did this happen. I must have missed this completely .
What made you go that route? Nothing against VW, but for some reason none of their cars do anything for me.

Does it have three pedals? I hope it serves you better than my 2013 Jetta S which I also purchased new and in red. It was the slowest car I’ve ever owned (I don’t think that engine is an option anymore) . It was also the longest 10 months of my life, but that was only 20% the Jetta’s fault.

I have the 1.4 in this car, in your gen as a loaner. It’s not that slow.

It happened the day of new years eve, which I shared in the post that is linked abo ve.
I’ve always had a slight preference towards European brands and my family has had lots of Audis. The VW ended up being the best lease deal, with the best equipment, and the best fuel economy, in the best color, with the most pleasant interior. After looking at a Focus, Forte5,
Elantra GT, Mazda3, and Cruze, it was really a no-brainer.

8-speed auto, 1.4 turbo four. Not a rocket ship but far from slow.

Are the speakers still horrible, or did they improve it with the platform change?
![]() 01/08/2019 at 17:48 |

Still not great. Acceptable, and the upgraded
stereo sounds pretty good, but these are meh.

It’s a good choice! Someone I know bought a 2019 and I was impressed.

I had a 115hp 2.0 it was awfully slow

I had a 115hp N/A 2.0 in mine. It was so slow.
![]() 01/08/2019 at 18:04 |

Yeah, this has 147hp/184lb/ft of torque. With the 8-speed and the turbo it does well, 0-60 is like 7.5 seconds compared to around 11 for the one you had.

Did you get a chance to look at the Civic?

What made you decide to go the lease route vs buying?
![]() 01/08/2019 at 18:14 |

The lower payments and the fact that I tend to change cars quite often.

The ones in my loaner Jetta are worse than the two 4" speakers in the 4Runner.

Yeah these must be a bit upgraded because they aren’t *that* bad. Or maybe I’m just already used to them, I noticed the first time I turned the radio on that they were not as good as the speakers in the Saabaru.
The flip side is, it’s much quieter
inside than the 9-2x was.

The GTI was whisper quiet inside , until I decided I haven’t grown up yet. If you have gotten used to them, they have updated them. I am by no means an audiophile, but I cannot get used to this.

Gas mileage?
![]() 01/08/2019 at 18:54 |

That's fair. The newest car I ever owned was 5 years old when I bought it (my Fiat), and I don't know if I could ever bring myself to get a new car just because of how much it costs.

More specific than what is in the post?
![]() 01/08/2019 at 20:30 |

I like the manual one
![]() 01/08/2019 at 20:34 |
|
I would’ve taken a manual, but coming from a manual before this I didn’t specifically want one (it was getting a bit old) and the one they had in the spec I wanted was an auto. But I gotta say, the 8-speed is pretty good.

How many problems have you had with it? :p
![]() 01/08/2019 at 20:46 |

Do you have sound settings within the radio that allow you to adjust the bass and the treble? I have those on my radio, and I was able to make the stock radio sound very nice because of those adjustments.

How do you like the ambient interior lighting? I like modern Volkswagens for using red illumination on most of the switches and controls; I think an extra dash of red lighting would be nice.

It’s already caught fire 9 times

Yup, it helped

The color changing lights? This one’s a base, doesn’t have them
![]() 01/08/2019 at 22:35 |

I might lease next time for this reason. I don’t think I’ll ever own a daily driver for longer than 2-3 years anyway. Why not have something nice and new, with no maintenance costs, for the same price I’d pay to make monthly payments on a 7 year old BMW.

Sorry missed that somehow

Nice! How do you like the 1.4t with an auto? My brother has it with a stick and it spools basically at idle in his Mk6, and my dad has the 6 speed auto (torque converter, not DCT, is that your transmission?). I like the 1.4t, the 6 speed auto not so much. Downshifts to aggressively, doesn’t want to let you coast.

It’s an 8 speed and seems to be paired well with the engine

My bad, I thought they were standard.

where is it made and how is the build quality?

Alas no

Mexico, and the build quality seems very good

I find it quite ugly and I think at a glance the lease prices were quite a bit more so I didn’t bother.
