It’s around this time every year that I tell myself I should go to Daytona next year for the race.
I started looking for flights, and I guess Orlando is the closest major airport and flights are really cheap right now...

Alonso
is enjoying every bit of the time he has out of F1. Look at him. Jeff Gordon can only weep.

I am LOVING everything coming from Daytona this weekend. Fernando Sandstorm, Alex Rossi shaving because he’s driving for Penske (is that really a rule?), Zanardi just being a total badass in general...
I need to go to the race next year.

Are any Oppos reading this going to the 24 Hours of Daytona?
I’m looking into it and it seriously seems enticing and is surprisingly affordable in terms of flights, rental car (to get from Orlando to Daytona), and accommodations (Airbnb). I’ve only ever been to two races in my lifetime, a Canadian Porsche GT Cup race (which had other touring car races, Formula Libre, and other events during the weekend) and the F1 Japanese Grand Prix.

Cool! You guys camping out at the circuit or just staying in Daytona Beach ? Camping sounds cool but knowing how difficult it is for me to fall a sleep, there’s no way I’d be able to sleep with a race going on nearby.
Did you just get the regular GA weekend tickets? Any garage passes or any of those extras?

I meant flying to Orlando and then renting a car.
We will either camp or sleep in our rentals. Fyi there is no better lullaby than a high revving Parsh or the LS of the Cadillac dpis or the C7! (I’m not kidding, I’ve slept very well at Belle Isle and Road Atlanta in the infield.)
We got the tickets that allow us to go in the infield, I don’t remember what they are called. A ticket cost $68. No garage pass for us coz we saw them in the pits at Road Atlanta.

That’s what I figured, with the additional cost/time/transfers of flying to the Daytona airport just renting a car from Orlando seems like a good idea (I was eyeing Turo but I haven’t checked actual rental services yet).
It’s looking really enticing since flights will probably be around $400 Canadian and Turo/Airbnb are quite cheap even after the conversion to USD . Not sure how well I’d do with sleeping in my car, but I’d rather get to the circuit itself without a car so that I can drink responsibly (not the amount so much but the fact that I wouldn’t have to worry about driving).
Chances are I wouldn’t sleep that much ( if at all) just to enjoy the atmosphere of a 24 hour race. It all sounds so enticing...
