As much as I love the TRD special edition’s looks , I don’t love the 33,000$ price tag (before markups or “market adjustments”). Especially when the base model is mid 20s and isn’t any slower once you mount the same high performance tires on them.
33,000$ is.....just 2-3 grand shy of base mustang GT territory. An d yes, fine, the 86 is light and nimble and all those good things......but so are the Fiata twins, which are cheaper than this. Again, the base model is priced competitively for its performance/fun class. With the death of the FiST and the abarth continuing to languish, the 86 is a real viable commuter fun car for the mid 20s price point. This special edition is just an expensive stripe and body kit to push that car into the low to mid 30s .
Toyota’s decisions when it comes to selling this car baffle me consistently.

“ TRD” is one of the worst acronyms used in the car world. I really like the 86, but would never want those letters on my car, haha

B ut racing stripe! Actually, I do really like it. Very 80's.
But I agree - marketing is making some dough on this model.
