New car or truck: starts at 29K

As tested : 60K

In other words, the one you want costs as much as a one bedroom condo in a large midwestern city.

Fuck new car prices.

Holy crap! What a bargain, that’s less than a yearly parking pass in most cities that people want to live in.

I have to deal with that plus being Canadian, which adds a large amount to car prices. I’ve accepted the fact that I’ll likely be driving used cars forever.

Yeah it’s crazy. Maybe now that interest rates are going up again, there won’t be so much easy money floating around, loans will get steeper, and eventually prices will come down a little bit... but probably not.

It depends on what you’re looking at.

A “$60k” pickup is actually a $50k pickup that is priced with a $60k MSRP but offered with $10k in rebates to make people think they’re getting a good deal buying one .

On the flip side, a Honda Civic with a $25k MSRP will probably sell for around $24k, without the dealer making a ton of $$$ on it.

2 key concepts at play here. First, shit gets more expensive over time. Second, they wouldn’t do it if it wasn’t working.

$60k, only $15k more than we paid for our 3 bedroom house with attached garage on almost 1 acre.......

Nobody’s forcing buyers to buy the fully-loaded model. The 29k base model often has everything the average buyer needs, but most people want the ego boost that comes with a higher-trim model.
