50 internet points if you can guess what I bought. Bigger post followed by a write up coming at some point.
Cliff notes version: The reviews are correct.

You probably should have asked me what the Stormcaller conversion costs first.
It, uh, it isn’t cheap when you have to source certain discontinued OE wire harnesses and have springs custom wound.

The registration doesn’t even pretend. It says station wagon.

A black market kidney?
A puppy?
A small volcanic island for a secret liar?

That’ s basically it in a nut shell. The trans programming is subpar but meh, the car sits in traffic or holds constant highway speed. Would be an issue hammering on a back road, but that isn’t what the car is intended to do.

Not sure what the Stormcaller conversion is......

Any specific items you want to know about?
![]() 01/02/2019 at 12:00 |

All of the above.
![]() 01/02/2019 at 12:13 |

Well, general impressions? Driving dynamics, fit and finish, road composure. Is the distribution of passenger room adequate? YOu know, things. Color?
![]() 01/02/2019 at 12:29 |

Think an SRT8 that can tow.
Except better in every possible way.
![]() 01/02/2019 at 12:59 |

More coming, but it’s a wagon that doesn’t pretend to be anything else. Passenger room is a big reason I bought it. It’s solid/average with slightly nicer materials on given surfaces. It’s nice but it’s a Buick, that is to say, i t’s nicer than some Chevy’s but it’s not a luxury car.

You are losing me there boss. SRT-8 is a trim level, well a hell of a trim level but you can get it on a Grand Cherokee, a Challenger, a Charge, a Magnum.....
![]() 01/02/2019 at 13:38 |
|
Yes. WK Stormcaller. But the GC SRT8 can’t fucking tow. Cannot.
Preliminaries look good for increasing my tow limit and GCWR to handle a 9000lbs pull with, eh, I’ll be happy with 400-450HP but we’ll see. Not like I can’t detune it.
![]() 01/02/2019 at 13:51 |

Wouldn’t it just be easier to reroute the exhaust and build the trans on a SRT-8 GC?

NUT

No. Because you can’t. The SRT8 has a completely different engine, transmission, transfer case, axles, suspension, and unibody. There’s no possible way to build the W5A580 to take the load, the NV146 transfer case will explode long beforehand, and the suspension will actually collapse. And you don’t have the required frame points for a Class IV hitch.
The 6.1 also doesn’t have headroom nor does the engine bay. You want power, you’re going to need boost. There’s no room up front for a centrifugal, there’s no room on top for a roots. The NV146, even if built, does not have any 4Lo capabilities (recommended for heavy load starts) and is a ‘maintenance free’ unit. So fluid cooking from towing destroys it twice as quick.
And I haven’t even gotten to the PCM or ECS or BTCS or CAN A/B/C system or the ESCM or the cooling module or even half of the parts that are different and require substantial modifications for heavy duty tow applications. Including swapping both axles.
Contrast this with a 5.7. Getting the engine north of 400HP on pump ? Heads, headers, and intake and injectors because the stock won’t bolt up to the new heads, plus some small PCM tweaks . And that’s good to 7200lbs with a 700lbs tongue if you don’t mind a 25k transmission fluid interval.
That’s it. Seriously. If you want the tongue up to ~9 00lbs, just needs rear shocks with load leveler springs and weight distributing hitch.
