In 2015 or 2016, I found a manual baby blue 9-3 TurboX wagon or whatever for sale on Autotrader. Years later, I still think about it and wonder what could have been if I had the money at the time . Anyone else have an automotive regret?

Tons!

But to keep it simple: probably when I passed up two separate opportunities to snag a facelifted SC400 in favor of two more 30-something year old Toyotas that didn't pan out. Knowing what I know now about fancy Toyotas, I'll bet good money had I bought an SC, I would still have it today.

There was an EV-swapped ‘74 MG Midget on my local CL for $1500. Still want one to this day.

If it wasn’t black, it wasn’t a Turbo X

I remember seeing a clean, one-owner 1997 Integra Type-R for $19k on the local Craigslist back in 2014.

But the first would have to be the ‘92 Legacy Turbo 5MT I saw back in 2008 . I still dream about that car and I spam “F5" in the hopes that a similar car pops up again.

About five years ago I narrowly missed a ‘94 five-speed ZJ down in the Moosomin area. Figured I would never come across one again. But maybe it’s a good thing I waited, cause the one I have now is in better shape with lower miles, and I paid $500 less for this one  than asking price on the other one.

Probably 5-6 years ago I came across a square body dually suburban with only around 100k miles on it that had been a search and rescue vehicle so it had all the offroad goodies too . I still want to get a squarebody suburban, but that one was just so much cooler than your run of the mill sq aurebody. I just wasn’t in a position to buy it at that point.

I have one regret: It was 2007 and I n eeded a car to move. My e36 broke down and I had to move during that same day. A nything that ran and had license plates was ok. I ended up buying a Renault 19 with the 1.7l inline four also found in some volvo’s. I paid 300€ for it and during the first kilometers, my high beams stopped working. I got them to work again by turning the fog lights on just to notice that the radio doesn’t work if the fog lights are on. Soon I noticed that every time I drove that french miracle it had developed a new electrical failure and/ or some old one slightly changed.

On my last ride in that shitbox I had to choose between opening any of the electric windows and losing all the lights visible inside the car (excluding the radio ) unless I had the heater on. It was a hard choise in afternoon traffic during a heatwave. Braking made the whole thing go dark cutting off every light(including the break lights) and the heater engine just to make the cigarette lighter work.

It was stolen and I called the police to demolish it if they would e ver even bo ther to find it. They did find it within a week , and it was burnt up . Got my papers for one demolished car and some greetings from the cops saying it went down in flames due some electrical failure. No wonder.

So there it is: My biggest regret and the one that got away. Lucky me.

Here’s a shitty picture of that shitty baguette before it got what it deserved:
