100-series Land Cruiser? Hmm?

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Unfortunately, the only way I could afford one next year is to find one with a billion miles on it. At least I’ll admit the odds I’ll ever utilize lockers are near zero, so that certainly makes the pool larger.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

But buying an expensive, high-mileage, robust, immortal SUV that gets mmmm 13-17 miles per gallon for camping — something I’m lucky to do even twice a year — kind of sounds like a foolish fool would do, right? Also seems to overshadow the IS in almost every way. And the IS only guzzles slightly less fuel. I’d be crazy to get rid of it though!

Ah, screw it. All signs point to Tundra...

That 98 has the best color, but it also has the A343F 4 speed, the pre-vvti motor and a 2 pinion front diff that likes to explode if you use it hard.  Get 2003 and up with the A750 5 speed and you’ll actually break into the high teens on the highway.

These are popular with the overlanding crowd. So take tha 13 to 17 MPG, add a rack and an awning and a bunch of gear and you may be lucky to break double digits. But you don’t buy these for mileage. You buy them for superior off-road Cush. If you can make it work, then  go for it.  I dream of the mid-80’s versions, myself...

These trucks are cool but literally everything about them makes them stupid to purchase except for the single  fact that they just don’t go down in value.

I’m still trying to decide on this as well, I’m also looking at the Lexus GX 470' s and a little bit at XTerra’s they are both cheaper than the Land Cruisers and usually have less miles on them. If you are stuck with the Land Cruiser, also look at LX 470's, sometimes you can find them for a better deal. I found one locally recently, it was a 2006 that had just over 100k miles on it and they wanted $12k for it, and had all of the history you could want, it sold within a few hours of them posting it for sale.

Also if you do decide on one, make sure the timing chain has been done recently.

This is all the good advice that can be had regarding 100 series cruisers.
