SEW FAWNCEH!

New roof is supposed to start Monday. New paint finished last week. New front door is out for paint. Hardwood floors just got installed last week (My wallet says “OUCH!”, but y ay- no more living in the basement!). I’ve posted about the house a couple times... It’s coming together nicely, but I’m growing weary or all the work... Septic, HVAC, paint and paint and paint, new appliances, more paint... Essentially everything but the hot water heater is going to be new by the time we’re done. *hot water heater explodes*

Well it really does look great. Painting is a fate worse than death, though.

I have this sinking feeling that my house will look it’s best the day before we sell it. There is so much to do... I could never live long enough to do it justice. I will say I we are slowly undoing a lot of neglect, though.

The evidence points to this house having gone through major renovations in 2010. I can’t imagine the level of negligence required to get it into the condition it was in with just 8 years. I’m sure the previous owners are renting somewhere... I just wish I could warn their landlord.

It’s just like a car that sits for a few years. It’s stunning how quickly time works its dark magic.

Did your generation have the barn doors option?

Yep. I think they were phased out with the mid-cycle refresh for ‘03. I purposely sought out one with barn doors, but in retrospect I kinda wish I went with the hatch. Rear visibility SUCKS, and it would be nice to have the hatch to keep rain off my head during the Oregon winters.

Odd, I see a brutish, crude, and fairly eye-hurting appliance for hauling useless and unwanted refuse and crap from point A to point B. Next to it is a dumpster (that could fit said appliance within).

Was that too harsh? Sorry, it’s after midnight and I’m trying to lull myself to sleep.

Excursions are great. I hope Ford makes a new version so there can be a Super Duty Wagon again.

OUCH! Pre-cat eye GMT800s are rather pleasing to the eye, IMO. Sure, it’s a bit of an appliance, but it’s got a decent amount of character and it’s incredibly capable.

I actually like the Excursion. If the 6.0 diesel didn’t have so many issues, the 7.3 diesel wa sn’t so unobtanium, and the V-10 so thirsty, I probably would have bought one instead. I actually saw one a couple years back that was a base model 4x4 with a 5.4 Triton (meh) and a 5-speed manual. I wish I had bought it!

I think the blob-eyes (early gmt800) were the best-looking gm trucks since the block-eyes (late-gmt400) until the 2014-2015 silverados came along (but just the front, the rest of the design reeks of multiple committees throwing all of their ideas on the board in typical modern gm fashion), and I appreciate that they’re the last of the Big-3's trucks to use a proper rear amber turn signal instead of using the flashing brake light method, which I hate. Though amusingly the models with the turn signal in the side-view mirrors used red chevron-shaped LED patterns in the mirrors, not amber to match the tail lights, which thankfully the modern gmt900-based SUVs don’t copy when they brought back the use of rear amber turn signals to gm, along with the c7 corvette. The gmt800s also seemed reactionary to me, following the success of the F-150's 1997MY “softening” and the subsequent Expedition release. The use of DRLs also bugged/bugs me, especially as many as I see that have one burned out in a cyclopsian manner.

The engines and dated transmissions were definitely the Excursion’s weak point. I see why it’s a relatively - popular pursuit on the aftermarket to buy a modern pre-2017 Super Duty crew cab and have one of the firms that make Excursion rears meld the two together, even though the design of the rear no longer matches the massive headlights and grilles of the pre-redesign trucks. The 6.7L Scorpion PowerStroke is a sweet engine, and I look forward to what Ford is going to do with it and future more-advanced transmissions. Heck, if I had the money and one or more of the later trucks (King Ranch, Limited, or Platinum) , I’d do the same thing, if only for the novelty and the clever rear door setup, because I’d get more use out of the closed wagon cabin than the open bed of the truck. I’d want a more modern rear end though, maybe with Transit taillights instead of the ones from the Econoline. Or, like I said , Ford could make a new one and likely easily sell every one, especially as apparently 2500-series gmt900-SUVs are special-order now.

There’s no more Suburban 2500... It's the Suburban 3500 HD, it's fleet only, and it features a 3,000 pound tow rating... Y?

I should have said HD not 2500, lol.

Only 3k?! I think my 2006 XC90 does more than that. Heck , my wife’s CX-5 might do more than that. Yikes!

3500HD low tow cap but very high payload. 4000lbs! I fairly certain it’s main purpose in life is up-armouring .
