After a bit of planning, I finally have a trip put together for Columbus day weekend to Seattle. No idea what we are doing yet but we’ve just got a few normal things covered like the brunch/dinner plans, Space Needle, Pikes Place Market, and Mt Rainier but we don’t like to plan things out a whole lot anyways. Just kind of go with the flow and do things that seem like fun. We are arriving Friday around 1pm and head out Monday at 6am. Staying in an Airbnb in the Gatewood/West Seattle neighborhood and renting a “Dodge caravan or similar” from Enterprise since it was the cheapest car option somehow. Hoping to upgrade if something cool is available but cheap wheels will certainly work for this trip.
We plan to spend most of Saturday going for a drive and hoping to see some cool roads that are easy to get to. Most importantly we are looking to see some leaves, enjoy a nice fall day, and take in the scenery. Ideally I’d like to get a good view of Mt Rainier but I’m open to whatever would be worth spending a day seeing. If the weather looks better Sunday instead we may switch it up so it’ll be fun either way. So I’ll definitely take drive suggestions or if any oppos want to do a drive, that would be fun!
Still debating about renting the STi I found on Turo but spending a little less would be nice.

Hmmm, I was just thinking of a trip south for Thanksgiving....
Which day would you be aiming for a drive on?

I do n’t think you’ll be wanting anything with a stick if you’re in downtown/Pike especially. Plan well!

Saturday or Sunday depending on which day has better weather probably. That would be the 6th or 7th. The other day would be used for wandering around Seattle being tourists along with Friday to do that stuff as well. It being a holiday weekend means there probably won't be too many options at the enterprise counter but we shall see.

If it’s your thing head to Woodinville for some wine sampling. There’s also breweries and distilleries.

Ahh I did not know that was a thing. Do they still eat turkey and all of the other american stuff? Or is it something entirely different? Yes I am uncultured by not knowing this was a thing.

We aren't really bicycle people, will probably drive into town and then walk a bunch. Or just Uber in if it's easier than finding parking. There should be a good amount of hipster shit to see in our area too, the Junction area being the spot to go from what I've read. But in general we won't rush around trying to do too much. We have learned that it's better to relax, just take in a few things, and then plan to see more the next time. Flights from LA are pretty cheap/quick so it won't be hard to get back up there again if we like the general vibes.

Don’t drive in Seattle. Parking is miserable and expensive , streets are one-way and chaotic, hills + rain + Seattle drivers... Yeah. Don’t drive. Super easy to uber everywhere.
Save the driving for outside of the city. Speaking of which, let me know where you end up going! I'd be more than happy to meet you in Rainier!

I still haven't had so much as a single drink in Woodinville. What's the best way to try the winery area out? Just walk from building to building?

I have no idea where to go at rainier actually. You have suggestions? Probably pavement though lol. Good idea on not driving much in the city. Chaotic is what I’m used to but generally it’s just an equation of which is cheaper versus how convenient driving might be. Is there transit in the city? I’m assuming just busses.
I'm more looking forward to driving outside the city since I've never been to the PNW but I'm sure everything will be neat either way. Unless it rains, I don't really remember what rain is.

What's the recommended way of getting there? Hop on a ferry from Seattle and then walk around a bit on the island and head back?

...We’re a different country, not space aliens.
Yes, we eat turkey, pumpkin pie and all the fixins!
Let me know when you want to have a meet. As I mentioned, I was thinking of coming down to Seattle S aturday anyways!

Yep, the ferry is the way to Bainbridge unless if you want to drive three hours out of the way. Yeah, it’s a good place to walk around and maybe get something to eat before going back.

Rainier is breathtaking in the rain. You win no matter what t he weather decides to do . I recommend starting in the top right corner of the park, by coming in via highway 410. Easy to do when you’re in Seattle. Just drive to Maple Valley, then put in “Paradise Inn” in your phone GPS.
So, starting top right, drive south on 410, continue south along 123, turn right on the Steven’s Canyon Entrance. Boom. You’ll see the majority of the park you can drive through, and while you could probably do the entire drive in just under 2 hours if you were screaming through ... I promise you that you’ll be stopping often. Make sure to grab one of these maps. You can get them at REI, a Ranger station near Rainier, or at the Steven's Canyon Entrance where you'll have to pay for a day pass.

Is rainier a national park? I'd get in for free since I already have the annual pass. This definitely looks like a plan to me!

Working with aesthetics in motion to meet up at rainier on Saturday. We should probably start an email chain or something outside of oppo to coordinate!

I know that we in the PNW typically use Discord for Oppo meets. Aestheticsinmotion and I both have used it successfully.
It would suffice for planning and meeting, but without cell reception obviously it doesn’t work.
I set up a server if you two wanted to join. https://discord.gg/zWRAKxZ
That link shouldn’t expire.
