Kinja'd!!!

So, I’ve been thinking about looking into getting a Civic.

Not that Civic, of course, maybe one like this:

Kinja'd!!!

I, personally, love the new Civic. I have since day one. It’s a great looking little car and is very well-equipped. I stand by my statement that the Type R is the best hatch on sale right now. And now that I’ve driven a few at work, I’m really, really interested in them.

Kinja'd!!!

I’ve never purchased a brand new car before so I’m a little nervous about that. Of course, picking the right model is important too, do I want the more plush Touring, or the sportier Si, or somewhere in between? Also do I continue my automatic dynasty or break free for a manual? Decisions...

Anyway, what s ay Oppo?

I recently did a search for Si’s and most were two doors, I would want a 4 door . The new Si is at the top of my list for a next car. For several reasons: efficiency, usefulness , 6 spd manual, 200 HP, LSD. With an MSRP around $24k it seems like a no brainer. I really want to go drive one but our local honda dealer only has EX and LX models.

I think a manual Si in that awesome green color is your only option.

Get a manual. A long time friend, who doesn’t really rev cars out, let me drive his 2012 Civic Si. On rev match downshifts, I was hitting VTEC and making the VTEC light come on. He was surprised. Another long time friend was like James hits VTEC on downshifts, you never hit it when you’re driving.

Split the difference and get the Sport trim with HP levels between Touring and Si? And if you like manuals, get the manual. Now that I don’t have one I want to go back to one despite how spoiled I’ve gotten in traffic.

I have a 2018 Si I bought last April. Highly recommend the car! It's a great daily driver, big enough to haul me and the wife, kiddo, and 50lb pup without issue. But when they're not with me, put it in sport mode and have a bit more fun. It's not the fastest thing out there, but still quick with good midrange, and I average 35mpg regularly with me pushing it more than I should. Driven more mindfully and it gets 40mpg, and shows 43-44mpg on long road trips with ease.

I hope they’re finally getting discounts instead of markups. Last year, the SIs were subject to 500-1000$ markups over MSRP before you even sit down at the table. I got a FoST for much less, but that was also still early in the model’s life. I think you’ll have better luck now. My friend wh o tracks his FR-S has an SI as his daily and he loves it.

Or, you could head out to Arizona, buy this, and look at the exotic cars at the dealership.  https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/739764633/overview?aff=share_other

The Si was on my list of cars to look at when I bought my TL. I really liked it, and if I absolutely had to have  a new car I would  have bought it. That said, I like the TL more.

The green is coupe only.

Nothing in the post says it has to be a 4 door.

I briefly owned a Civic (2012?) before my Jeep, and I was lucky to get 25, which really depressed me after getting 30+ for 14 years in my del Sol.

(Of course, now I get 12, but let’s not dwell on that.)

I really like them. I prefer the hatch body style as it’s really practical in design but I’m hoping for a trim in between Si and Type R . A 250 hp Civic GT hatch would be perfect IMO

I’d answer your question with a follow-on question.

What is your goal? What is your ultimate car that you think you can afford someday in the next 3-10 years?

If it’s a halo car like the Type R, get something cheaper that’s still fun enough to enjoy on a daily basis. Civic HB manual.  Upgrade after this car when you feel your dream car is within reach.

If you’re not as hardcore, and are content with something like the Si for the foreseeable future to do all your daily/weekend/family/future-family duty, then the Si is a great “forever” car to own and drive until it costs more to fix than it’s worth.

True, but I personally don’t like the coupe’s exaggerated bubble butt.

I kinda wish Honda would make like a Type R Touring - good motor, brakes, dif  and manual but no wing, loose the super low profile tires and some of the all the red striping.

Really? I like the coupe more than the sedan. Hatchback is where it's at, but no Si

May I ask, since I’m in an 8th gen Si and looking at either a Si or an accord sport, what did you pay for the Si?

4 door or 2?

Any complaints?

I really, really like the coupe. However the same styling as applied to the sedan doesn’t really work for me.

If you’re looking at hatchbacks, I’d say buy a crappy Saturn and wait until the new Corolla hatches start getting cheap

As a major Honda fanboi, there’s one reason I wouldn’t buy a new Si. The GTI.

Paid $23,470 for mine plus TTL. 4 door in white (my favorite color for this model, plus it matches my motorcycle).

I had an 8th gen Si (2008) for a few years, and a 2014 Accord Sport just prior to my new Si. Though I’d imagine you’re looking into the new accord sports. Those are fantastic.

No complaints whatsoever. Its a great all around vehicle, affordable with low running costs, has enough features to feel modern and like I didn't cheap out (my prior accord sport felt barren of creature comforts), etc. And it's a lot of fun to drive. Only car I've owned that I enjoyed as much as this was a 2011 GTI.

4 dr Si has a lot to like for the $3000 added cost compared to the sport hatch including a Moonroof, top level stereo, better interior and HP.
