It’s weird having something that functions as a boring car. For the first time on a family trip, we took my car. It did fine. It held everything, it was comfortable, and it did everything in a not annoying fashion. Neither the Fiesta or 4Runner did these things. This is new to me.
I averaged 29.1 mpg with 3 people and their stuff at 80+mph going up and down(probably more up).

It’s a wonderful feeling. Then when I get bored, I can press a button, move a lever then have tons of fun.

Your seeing what we see in hatchbacks here in Europe.
They are practical and economical with specs ranging from more economical, basic, average good all rounders, performance, etc...
What you’ve got is a great daily driver with a little more vim than others.
HFV has no HFV. But somehow has 2 motorcycles

I had the same experience the time we took my car to Minneapolis. We had always taken my Wife’s because my car was a to unreliable for a 8 hour round trip. Taking my own car felt pretty cool. Especially since it’s such a good Highway cruiser

But that annoying fashion is where all of the fun is, where is your sense of adventure? Haha just kidding, the GTI still perfectly embodies that. Taking anything that isn't a boring ecobox is the way to go on a trip. It felt like cheating when I took my STi on a 1400 mile trip recently compared to my Miata. I didn't have to tetris everything, I had a roof and AC, and I didn't have to add any oil during the trip. So yeah a car that just works is nice on a trip, bonus of still having fun though, especially on some nice high speed sweepers.

If I had your commute, I’d still be suffering in the FiST. My commute is not scenic, and is pretty much straight lines and 90 degree angles. The ST made that terrible.
