Honestly, I think the saddest thing about this Kavanaugh hearing is that by drumming up an unverifiable sexual assault case and shoving a reluctant accuser in front of all of America, the Democratic party will not only still lose but also strike a blow against women.
A few years ago, I learned a valuable lesson: Don’t take a bet unless you’re pretty much certain you will win. In this case, they did the opposite. It’s like there are 50 drunk leprechauns trying to drive the party at the same time and it’s going no where.
And if you’re thinking to yourself: Aha! But if they confirm Kavanaugh, then it will fire up the base and they’ll vote in droves at the midterms!
Then you have to remember: that was at the cost of women’s rights and the dignity of someone who was never given a fair trial. Frankly, I think that cost was FAR too high.
Meanwhile, and yes - I will continue to harp on this, Canada can import R34 Skylines and we can’t. Congress, get back to work and get rid of the stupid 25 year import ban.

They didn’t ‘drum up’ anything, and they didn’t shove anyone in front of the country either. Every step of this process has been Dr. Ford’s choice, and would not have happened without her consent.
You are right about one thing though: reporting sexual assault does 'strike a blow' against women who get to carry a stigma for being victims of sexual assault. I'd ask you to check out #whyIdidntReportIt to see exactly what awaits sexual assault victims who chose to come forward if I thought you gave a damn.

They came looking for her, not the other way around.
I realize that truth provides cognitive dissonance for a lot of people so take it for what you will.
It honestly doesn't matter whether it was reported or not. If he is confirmed, none of this was worth it and women are worse off for it. And that sucks.

It was her choice to bring her accusations forward but to keep this all private (and hopefully anonymous) . The person who leaked her letter is a criminal. They’ve done tremendous damage to both the Ford and Kavanaugh families - this could’ve (and should’ve) been handled behind closed doors.

If dumb drunk boys even slightly think sexual harassing someone can come back to get them 35 years into the future, then it helped.

Truth? What truth? Where?
Rand-loving “libertarian” or ashamed 45er?

No one will take that away from this if he gets through . Sorry.
If he's rejected, then he's essentially been deemed guilty without due process. Which is also terrible.

I mean Vice news just interviewed high school boys and they said its something you have to think about. Mostly probably to do with the whole metoo movement and yes there where cameras in front of them, but still.
Also being “deemed guilty” in this situation means he keeps his old job and he isn't one of 9 people with a lifetime position of upholding the constitution/national values.

OK then sure , posting history misled me.
Still waiting for “truth”, maybe neither side in this mess trades in it? Kavanaugh’s arrogant barking and Graham’s absolutely moronic whining make it hard to give them sympathy.

I disagree.
This isn’t a blow against women, it’s a display that someone’s actions - even a Supreme Court Nominee -
can still have consequences, even across decades and even if there is no possible legal action.
Like you said, there probably is no basis for legal action, but that’s not the intended consequence either. This is a character reference.
There should be enough information to help verify some of the story, or at least ask some bigger questions. The biggest and most relevant question: Is this indicative of his character today? There appears to be enough veracity in Dr. Ford’s testimony to take a second look, to look into his history, his professional and maybe even personal relationships a little closer.

I understand your points, but there’s really no reason that this had to happen in a public forum. It’s bad for Ford, it’s bad for Kavanaugh, it’s risky for the Democrats, and it’s stupid for the Republicans. Both of those political parties are chock full of dicks trying to maximize how much they screw each other, the media eats it up, and we ultimately pay the price.

I agree that it doesn’t need to happen in a public forum, but that’s where it’s happening.
Is it bad for Ford? That’s probably something she’d have to answer for herself. She will become a symbol of hope and strength for women in a similar situation, but she will become a symbol of hate for people who assume she’s lying. And there should be a psychological benefit to getting the story out for everyone to hear. Only she can answer whether it was good or bad when all things are considered.
Yes, it will be bad for Kavanaugh, but I feel like his responses mattered as much as the accusations. He certainly didn’t act like someone who was innocent or remorseful of younger actions. If that at minimum indicates that he’s someone that acts (or talks) first and thinks second, I’m not sure he’s fit for the supreme court.
It’s risky for the Republicans, but they’re the ones who named a potentially disastrous Kavanaugh. It’s not very risky for Democrats, because they’re either going to fail after fighting hard, or they’re going to succeed and block the nomination of someone accused of sexual assault. The only way the dems would outright lose in this, would be if they just roll over and give up after fighting this hard.
