It’s easier than anyone else’s job but the boss makes it awful. She’s spiteful and mean and comes in and checks up on me after she’s supposed to be gone for the day. She suggests things that are ridiculous and expects me to just do them (I was supposed to take 500+ golf balls and see if they float, if they didn’t I was to just put them back with the others anyway). She wants me to have an employee in costume scaring customers for the next month (I only have 3) it’s all nonsense and I just want to start getting my GI Bill checks so I can fuck off again. I have to work every Friday and miss the only 2 HPDE events I was planning on going to as well. I have to work on my girlfriend’s birthday because there is no one else who can close. Fuckin’ tired of it. Thank god it’s temporary.

Not even about loving it, just not having a bully as a boss. Also doesn’t help that my boss is fucking her boss so she’s all high off of that.

I just had a client threaten to cancel a $30,000 order, weeks after agreeing to our lead times and terms when he approved the work. When I wouldn't get on my knees and beg for forgiveness, he then claimed I promised him a hard date.
It was not the most pleasant phone conversation.
“Just for the record, you promised it in 5 weeks.”
“No, I didn’t. I’m actually looking at the email I sent you back in August.”
“Well, [your boss] said 5 weeks.”
“There is no way he said that, and I was also CC’d in the email he sent you which definitely say 9 weeks with no guarantees.”
“No, I’m— I’m pretty sure he said five.”
“Well you better send me that email as soon as I hang up this phone, because I’m sure we’d LOVE to honor that promise if it happened.”
No email, no call, no cancelled order.

I used to work procurement/contracts, now I work at a mini golf hellhole for $15/hr. I know how much shitty customers suck but, I kinda miss it..

I’m the assistant manager and I’m probably nicer than I should be to my guys but, they have lives too. I like to think that when I treat them with respect and ask for their input, that they will give it back which has been mostly true. I think even just talking to your people and seeing what they have going on in their lives and seeing if you can work around some of it is huge.

One of the things I learned when I got older and became the boss was that I’m not supposed to be anyone’s pal anymore. That was kind of a big change in my mind, because I didn’t feel any different. Once I learned that, people got more comfortable around me. I try to be friendly and compassionate, but not necessarily be anyone’s friend.

I’m just a kid (24), I know that my guys who are in high school or community college all have shit going on. I know it’ll be different as I get better jobs but right now I want to protect them from the bullshit.

It’s a learning process. You’ll find out that people’s view of you will change not just as you gain more responsibility, but even just as you get older. You’ll figure out how to deal with it in your own way and be successful. Sounds like you’re starting from a good point of view to me.

I look young which never plays well, I did the Air Force thing for 4 years and I’m a junior in college now and I still get asked if I’m in high school. I don’t love my job and I took it over from someone who wasn’t all there for a few years before me. I’ll try to stick it out and do my best. Thank you.
