Okay, maybe not right away, but it’s cool that the incoming stock is (perhaps predictably) driving the ones one lots to nice discounts. From what I read on the FP, they still approached Kia’s sales goals for the year, so it’s not like it’s a disastrous fire sale.
I spoke to my Kia tech Tuesday. He told me they’ve had one guy buy two of them now in GT2 trim, with custom packages added on top, one in yellow and one in red. The red one I got to drool over in the service bay when it was being prepped. Apparently this same person also modded and souped up a new turbo Soul. Sounds like someone I want to meet.

I drove a GT2 when I was shopping - really liked it, though the roofline in the back infringed on headroom too much for me.
A new one (with the Kia warranty) in the low 40's would be a really nice deal.

It would be cool if my son’s hockey gear would reasonably fit, and allow transport of two such hockey players. I’d go test drive one, if that was the case.

If I were going to buy new in the foreseeable future, it would be on the list.
Right now, though, another two years (?) of college loan payments.

I remember. Rear headroom has never been an issue for me, so that part of your review didn’t dissuade me in the least from drooling over these things.

I suppose it would depend on how often you have passengers in the rear seat. At 32, I probably transport someone in my back seat about once every 4 months. That's not often enough for me to base a purchase decision on rear headroom. But if you regularly have passengers back there, I understand.

It’s funny - if you don’t have kids, or your kids are old enough to get themselves in and out of the car, the Stinger is fine. But if you’re the one who has to climb back there, it’s a bit of a pain.

I still want to test one, so can’t say for certain, but the fact that it is really a hatch and looks to have decent storage is encouraging. I too consider cargo space important. It may be worth your time to check out.

Very true - I think most buyers won’t care that much about it.
But I have a 2 year old and we have to get him buckled up. And the low roofline on that car means banging your head or contorting a bit to do it.
Probably in the next year or so, that won’t be an issue - now we put him in the car and he climbs into the seat, then we buckle him, so it won’t be long before he just climbs in and we just have to do the buckles.
Forgetting that, though, I really liked the chassis and drivetrain. Very smooth, powerful, and the engine/trans are well-suited to each other. A touch numb, but that’s basically true of almost everything these days.

I’ m 5'8", so room is fine. Problem for me with narrower back doors is the climbing part from the chair. But it’s a minor problem.
For me though, I was seriously gonna get the convertible because we had the minivan for actual room. Truth is, whenever it’s all three of us, we still never take my car, even though it’s a big luxury sedan. We still just jump in the Sedona.

What was the trim? The FP article focused on the 4 cylinder models, although there are still discounts on the GT trim. I’m sure it also depends on the dealer and regional stock availability.

Not really.
At $30k, a loaded up GTI is smaller but better.
At $40k, a nicely equipped
Alfa is a horrible financial decision but it looks gorgeous, therefore is better.
At $50k, a BMW 340 is better because BMW I6 and manual transmission.
The Stinger is only compelling if you’ve been living under a rock for 5 years, and the first and only thing you see after crawling out from under your rock is a Kia dealer.

I don’t know what that guy got. I had the impression he had the kind of wallet that didn’t worry about deals.
They have a couple on the lot, including one in that blue I like so much, but I didn’t ask the price since I haven’t had time to test it yet. If I do, I’ll likely post all that stuff here, because who else am I gonna tell? My wife doesn’t care about this stuff.

I’m only 5' 9" myself - once I was inside the back seat, it wasn’t bad at all. It was the roofline that bugged me - I banged my head pretty hard getting into it, which was odd.
I’m surprised you still take the Sedona - I would think that luxury car would be super comfy for everyone. We usually take my car, but that’s mainly because I always drive, and I don’t really like driving her car (plus it’s usually full of crap anyways).

I was joking about the fanboy part because of all the enthusiastic posts we’ve been having on the Stinger. I know not al l of us here love them.
I’ m pretty sure I don’t live under a rock. I can tell you that a GTI does nothing for me, as in if someone gave me a free one, I’d sell it and get something else I like. I think the front end of Alfas are ugly because of that beak grill, and so would never own one. I don’t like BMWs, and especially have no use for a manual transmission. The Stinger though ticks a lot of boxes for me.

Stinger GT is on my list, among others. I did comment several times on that article on available deals.
My target is however a fully loaded GT2 RWD/AWD under $27K used/CPO under 30K miles . Specific interior and exterior color. I am willing to wait and drive a while to get the right one.
I just hope they don’t stop production soon.
Chariotoflove

Here the main reason why. When someone sits in the back seat, it means the chair needs to have the wheels taken off and be p ut in the trunk. That’s not hard, and there is plenty of room for it. But it turns out to be simpler and faster to just put it all assembled into the back of the van. Also, my wife really likes her van, and she likes to drive it when we all go out. She’s the kind of person who doesn’t really care about driving and cars in general, but she becomes attached to her own car and really enjoys it.

No u.
A loaded GTI is a much smaller, much slower car compared to the 3.3 and I bet it would struggle to keep up with the 2. 0 (unless it’s a comp pack)
A “nicely equipped” alfa at 40K doesn’t exist. A base model, 38k alfa with some extras atop is also slower than a GT2 stinger and worse equipped.
A 50k 340i is significantly disadvantaged in every aspect except perhaps resale value. Plus the Stinger isn’t in the same market as the 3er.
Needless to say that two of the three cars you suggest are already deep into their facelift and newer versions are already being tested, or that the Alfa Romeo has been controversial for being so unreliable.
The only way a 340i is “compelling” compared to a stinger is if you have lived under a rock for 5 years.

They’ve been cheap since the first one hit Manheim. You can buy them, as a dealer, under 30k months ago. If that trend continues, comsumers should be able to snag a CPO one around 30k soon.

Someone wrote that they hit sales targets in the US. I haven’t checked that out, but the targets weren’t high. I suspect that they have to get much more common to give that impression.
Funny, I compare it to the ATS, which was bemoaned as a sales flop nationwide. Yet, it seems to me that I see them around me all the time. Then again, regional anecdotes do not necessarily translate to market-wide trends.

Last I
looked the 4 banger was 3-6k off in Spokane WA. So damn tempting for a new car. It ticks all my boxes although I really would prefer AWD or a FWD car with an
LSD for winter time. As you may be aware of there is snow, then there is Whitefish MT. My driveway, I’d say this is a weekly occurrence
from December through March.

I suppose. Though Kia is killing it in Mexico with their other products. I really must make emphasis that their move to enter the Mexican market until their fleet was at a good reliability level and with a completely different strategy than in the US has completely changed how we look at Kia. Here Kia is positioned in similarly to VW; which is astounding.

I didn’t pay close attention, but there weren’t many with GT in the title and the ones that had it were in the $40s or $50s. The rest were in the mid-30s. I was looking the msrp and the “discount” which was no more than $3k.

From an acceleration perspective, a GTI is actually faster than a 2.0 Stinger but slower than the 3.3. Makes sense, given the lighter weight.
I stand by my opinions on the Alfa. The 3.3 Stinger will be faster, but the 2.0 will be slower. It’s still better looking, and a horrible financial decision.
The 3 series is still
the car that the Stinger (and every other car in the class for that matter
)
is benchmarked against.

I posted this to FP... but I’ll restate it here:
What I really want is the G70 2.0T Sport but with a Stinger body. RWD, liftback with a manual. Just put the manual transmission there and I’ll go trade my 328i.
