The ideal Ford garage post got me wondering, since I already have a Ford. What if we had to be happy with what we already have? What if you were given $5k and you are only allowed to spend it on your car, the money will self-destruct if you don’t spend it. What would you spend it on?
Personally, I have a fairly good idea for my Taurus SHO :
$350 Catch Can
$700 Meth kit
~ $1000 on exhaust upgrades, I’d like to widen the pipes for more flow, but I want maintain a similar soundtrack to what I have now, but I’d add electric cut outs just before the rear mufflers (I already have downpipes)
$300 for a few additional tunes (93 octane, E30, race gas) (I currently have 87 efficiency, 89 efficiency and 89 performance)
~$500 appearance upgrades
The rest would be spent on telling a body & paint shop “I have ~$2150, make her look as good as possible! ” (I have a few minor dents, scrapes and other imperfections)

Rust repair on my truck would consume every bit of that $5000, if not more. With that done though I wouldn’t hesitate to put some offroad goodies on it. Or do I spend the $5000 on offroad goodies and ignore the rust because off road truck? Nah, rust repair first.

I’d fix the couple of interior dings I made with the wheelchair before I figured out my loading system, replace the rim that has the little bit of curb rash. With the rest, I’d fly Svend in for the weekend and have him do a complete interior and exterior job on the car.

Assuming I use it for the Firechicken and not counting the headers/y-pipe/ultimate TBI project I just bought the parts for, I would:
1. Rebuild the driver’s seat. ($600)
2. Fix various interior bits. ($400)
3. New-to-me rear end with 3:42 gears. ($
1,000)
4. New fiberglass rear spoiler. ($500)
5. B

$2500.

5K? Hmmm....
- Some preventative maintenance, I guess? I’m pretty much on top of eve rything, but there’s always something you could do to go the extra mile. Battery is still fine, but why not throw in a new one since winter is coming... stuff like that.
- A set of Alpina wheels for summer, relegating the summer wheels you see in the picture to winter duty and storing the 16 inch winter wheels for whatever.
- A mild tune with a mild exhaust. Nothing too much just opening her up a tiny bit.
- A full on wax, polish, paint correction, leather treatment, whatever. Basically a very expensive Svending.
- Oh, I almost forgot. There are android based upgrades for the r ather ancient iDrive system. It’s working fine, but I might look into those as well.

I would immediately not spend it on my car but instead turn around and go buy a rustheap Packard.
Okay, assuming I had to spend it on my car AT GUNPOINT, and that it was the Galaxie we were talking about, a bunch of rechroming and a mostly-respray
paint job. And a dual exhaust. If anything were left over at that point, professional help redoing the seats.

I wish I could affordably add an android auto experience to my car, but alas. It would take half the $5k budget to do it right (if not more) .

Just had to get new tires ~ $700
Getting new control arms and trailing arms ~ $1500
And then other stuff I would get:
15" wheels with some sort of A/T Tire ~ $1600
Skid Plates ~ $500
Leaves me with ~$700 for dent and rust repairs. Still would need a repaint…

Which one? Can I split it up or does the magical $5k appear for each car? Does it only appear once but I get to pick which car to use it on?
If on each:
Crown V ic: Putting money into this is equivalent to burning it. Maybe use it as rust patch. Otherwise, 5 speed, diff rebuild, and supercharger (I do labor).
Chevelle: Pay a shop to finish the bodywork. That’d easily consume $5k. Any leftover would buy paint (as in materials).
4Runner: Ummmmmmmmm rebuild the whole suspension I guess? And get tires, but I’m going to do that anyways.
RX7: S
imple rebuild/refresh on engine, trans, and diff (with upgrade to LSD).

Can it be divided between cars? If not this is how it would go.
2013 Volt:
Backup camera, winter wheels and tires, heated front seats from a wrecked volt, roof rack, hidden hitch with bike carrier, and possibly a two tone vinyl wrap.
2006 Silverado:
Wheels from a later Silverado with new tires, fix the damaged front seat, upgraded dual exhaust from headers to tips, larger throttle body, upgraded heads and a tune to get the most from those changes.

Yeah, I’m not a huge fan of the Sony system in my SHO. I wouldn’t call it atrocious compared to what was in my Ford Fivehundred. I’d more so call it “not too bad”. I’ve wondered what simply swapping out the door speakers would do, I’m not sure I want to get much more involved than that.

I’d definitely change out the door speakers, even that alone should make a pretty decent difference in your SHO.

Oh man they were both soooo awesome, especially the Stagea, I love that they used an off-the-wall engine. The odd laws over there make for fascinating engine swaps.
Quite frankly, I often like their projects better than MCM projects.
As for the case of the wants, I hear you, I’d love to import something and do such a swap... Some day, maybe. Once I have a house with a garage that has room for a multi-year-car-project.

I just googled those speakers, those look very nice. I personally have more of a budget setup, picked up a used Mitsubishi DA-R 8 (paired with a Mitsubishi turn-table from the same era), they are hooked up to Polk Monitor 10's. It sounds better than any other stereo setup I’ve owned, so I’m quite happy. I’m sure your setup is quite a few notches above that though .
And honestly I should invest a bit in my SHO, as far as sound, given how much of my music listening time occurs in the car. The silly thing is that this Sony “premium” audio system is more of a hindrance than a help as far as improving it, from what I recall from my research several years ago. And premium just means slightly above average in this case of the use of the word premium.
