Not a terrible idea if the house is designed for kids, or dogs, or hooligans, or unmanned battery skateboards. Hardwood flooring is more durable than drywall or whatever other softwood verneer someone might put over pressed cardboard MDF.

Seems like it might end up looking fine. That tiny gap next to the stairs is weird though. If it were bigger it might be a nice way to get more light in or something, but just having a 8" wide slot just makes it look like you couldn’t afford stairs that were the right width.

We have an accent wall on our stairs done with distressed, trimmed pine planks designed for fences (1/2" x 6", I believe). Not too much different. Our neighbors are interior designers and have all kinds of cool tricks.

I’ve seen much weirder and/or worse , this isn’t offensive.

Those stairs look really narrow, especially for moving furniture or for the girth of so many.

Is this one of those built-upwards houses so you can have 4000 sq ft on a 4600 sq ft lot?

That’s...not the whole wall, right?  I like the wood floor as paneling (who’d have thought paneling would be back?!?), but that short wall...not so much.

Turn the pic sideways, and the floor makes a cool textured wall. Maybe this is for someone who lays on their couch a lot and wants it to look cool from that perspective.
