ITS NOT A CAFE RACER. A Honda CBR 250r isn’t that bad for a beginner right?

DRZ400SM. It’s 90's 400cc, you sit high up. It basically a dirt bike with street tires, & different gearing. Also no need to worry about pot holes, or curbs. You can also find them for cheap.

Not a bad bike at all. The only issue would be that you might outgrow it pretty quick. A friend (and sometimes opponaut) had one for a couple months, then sold it and bought a CB500F which he likes more.

In what market can you find them for cheap? They command a premium out in the Northwest

if a full sport bike is up your alley, then it’s a good one for a beginner.

as said, you’ll probably outgrow it quickly though.

The CB250R is a good beginner bike, yes. Most Honda bikes 750cc and under are good beginner bikes. They are very well balanced and predictable.

2010s 250cc sport bikes make as much power as 500ccs from the 80s, if not more. Take a look at Nighthawk 250s, TW200, Honda Rebels, and other stuff MSF uses for their courses.

A supermoto encourages one to do even dumber hooligan shit than a leader bike, although at much slower speeds.

Bad choice for a beginner.

Here’s a fresh idea. You let us pick a safety course in your area that spits you out the other end with a license. If your parents are still on board I can about assure you those of us who have long experience will pick out a well suited make/model bike and help you find one in good condition.

The hard part here is you are all over the board. The bike and the style of riding need to match your physical make up and abilities. You and your dad would be very well served to go rent some small underpowered dirt bikes and go tool around on them for a day or two. Enough to induce fatigue and highlight a few instances you would have been in peril had there been traffic. Healthy fears and near absolute preternatural awareness need to blossom in your young mind.

Dad coming along instead of a bunch of, potentially, poisoned with machismo teenagers might be the only selling point you can leverage against mom.

I agree with Nom De Plume . Starting with an MSF course was the best motorcycle-related thing I ever did. Cheapest, too. I’m 37, been riding dirt bikes since I was 14 or 15, and the MSF course taught me tons of useful stuff that ripping through the woods doesn’t. Gives me a break on insurance rates, too.

Take the course, it was only $50 and it was actually pretty fun. Then go ride a bunch of different bikes before settling on a type. I ended up going down the cruiser path because I’m fat and lazy and laying over the tank of a CBR gets old after like 15 minutes.

Would make a great beginner because you will not be able to flat foot it.

Yeah I’d have to take an msf course anyways because it’s gonna be about a year or so before I’m eligible for a license
