It’s turned into a period correct build. I forgot I had a set of turbine wheels in the rafters of my garage (were originally on a Fox Body SVO owned by my buddies dad when he was younger). Needless to say, they’ve been installed. Next is a period correct stereo system. For me anything 1980-1990 is considered period correct for this car, basically how it would have been built by someone who owned it in the 80s. The stock 231 will get built as far as I can build it (headers, air pump delete, cams, Buick 4.1L intake with a Holly 390 Carb). I’ve ordered new ball joints, tie rods, center link, idler arms, plugs, wires, cap rotor, coil, pads, rotors, calipers, drums shoes, rad, rad hoses, belts, water pump, thermostat and wheel bearings.

It cleans up pretty nice.

In other news, my buddies TE30 Corolla wagon is finally back on wheels. He bought it and the entire rear sub frame had to be rebuilt from the ground up, which required a lot of custom fab work considering the parts are impossible to find for the wagon.

For now he’s running a set of 13x6 Cheviot Haywires that came from my dad, who had them on his AE86 from when I was a kid. Ultimately he wants the car slammed on 14s. But here is a general idea of how it’ll look on the Haywires (I kinda dig it).

Wow, impressive.  What’s the plan for the Corolla?

The period correct stereo, as you put it, is a bold move.  I like the idea of being able to play my old tapes in the car, but I’d likely cop out and put in something with bluetooth to stream my playlists and Pandora (it would be discreet of course).

I wholly agree, but until I can find a retro stereo I like, I’m gonna have to go old school. Right now I’ve got an old JVC head unit my dad had in his WD21 Pathfinder years ago. That’ll be matched to four Alpine 4x6 speakers and an OLD 100w JVC bazooka tube (my dad said the bazooka tube came out around when he got his license, so ‘84-’86).

The plan for the Corolla right now is to just get it structurally sound and driving. long term plans are a 4AGE, 5 speed & an AE86 rear end, slammed on 14s. I still think he should keep it on the 13x6 Cheviot Haywires.

As somebody who graduated from HS in 1984, I am in love with that Sunbird. And then I scrolled down to the Corolla. You, sir are doing it right.

Your car is gorgeous. And I can remember being driven to the hospital to get stitches as a kid in a brown Corolla wagon just like your buddy’s.

If you want a very easy solution that can be hidden anywhere, there are bluetooth amps. I installed one in my car and it works great and is completely hidden except for a small controller which allows me to pause and skip tracks. https://www.amazon.com/Kenwood-1177524-Automotive-Amplifier-Kac-M1824BT/dp/B00UTXQL74

JVC was always my system of choice. I still run a JVC component system in my living room.  It’s 35 years old.

That looks amazing. I think AestheticsIn Motion found a vintage looking knob radio on Crutch field that does Bluetooth.
