Hot take: 40% of bike exhausts are absolutely too loud.

Yes, an exhaust can be too loud and not only on the bike of some lane splitting jerk
. (When I am emperor of California, there will be no more lane splitting allowed.)
There are muscle cars out there with ridiculous (cat-back) exhausts as well.

What do you have against lane splitting? The entire world allows it outside of 49 ass backwards states.

I can’t argue with that, afterall the exhaust probably mutes my arguments.

Riders abuse the privilege and expect me to get out of their way and goose the throttle when they’re right next to me so they can startle me and it’s uncivilized and lawless. And if that’s not you, then maybe you can take it up with some of the ones I’m describing.
Banish lane splitting, says I.

Have you considered not try ing to block motorcycles that are just trying to get past you?

Sometimes it’s an innocent misstep, here in Mexico City its officially banned but everyone does it. But as a young driver it took me both riding a motorcycle and a bicycle to empathize with my two wheeled companions of the road when it comes to moving out of their way, more insistent signaling and also being extra cautious when turning into a road (I find thay motorcyclists aren’t particularly keen in watching my turn signal)

Your remark causes my “fuck you” response to happen because you imply that I am intentionally trying to impede a motorcycle. At least that’s my read. And it contributes to my motorcyclists-as-assholes impression. At least, that’s how I read it. Perhaps that wasn’t your intent, but hey: if it was, drop dead.
I wanna drive on the freeway without some jackass doing 15 or 20 mph more than I am, jamming into my blind spot, and expecting me to be on the lookout for him, and worrying for his safety when he’s clearing the cars in front of me by two inches.

If you can’t pay attention when you’re driving, that’s on you. You need to be aware of motorcycles, that is your responsibility as a driver. If you don’t like it, hand in your license. Lane splitting is safe and legal and there are laws that regulate when and how it can be done. D rivers who don’t check their mirrors let alone their blind spots are the biggest threats on the freeway.

Yeah; talk of lane splitting triggers lane splitters sometimes. It’s definitely
a thing. If I ever get a chance to vote against lane splitting, I definitely will because people abuse it and make menaces of themselves on the highway
. As I understand it, the original intent of lane splitting was to keep air-cooled motorcycles from overheating in traffic back in the day. Definitely not how the practice is applied nowadays.

Lane splitting reduces traf fic and there are still a lot of air cooled bikes on the road. If you can’t deal with having to check your mirrors when you change lanes, god help us all. And since CHP endorses it, it’s more likely to spread to other states than it is to be banned in California.

You seem quite determined to blame me and my driving ability for the members of your community who give the rest of us a bad impression.
