Looks nice! My car came stock with a leather knob with an aluminum insert at the top . After the first heat wave I bought the cheaper model knob with the plastic insert because the aluminum heated up to the point that it hurt to shift gears.

Thanks. I’m pretty fortunate - I get to park in the garage below my office building, so heat should rarely be a problem. The cold on winter mornings may be, we’ll see. That’s why I got one with the Delrin ring, and if I have to swap to the OEM knob for the coldest part of the winter or the hottest part of the summer, I’ll just do that.

I was thinking, wow that’s one weird looking M knob, then I remembered you got a new truck and also relegated your M3 to lighter work. Drove mine to work again today, 3 is down for some new tires.

I do have a newer M5 knob on my M3 (looks like the M2's).
Already looking forward to my next drive in my car!

Yours looks nice enough that a little discomfort will be worth it.

I wanted to replace it at one point, but I do like the knob it comes with.
Driven it 4 days in a row now, probably the most since I’ve gotten the 3.

It feels fantastic, and looks so much better that stock.
I’m a very tactile guy, so the cold/hot that comes with a smooth, hefty chunk of aluminum is all part of the experience. =)

I hear that. The knob on my mini truck was getting sticky from age and I got my father to make me a new one out of a chunk of walnut. He turned it on a lathe, sanded it smooth and I never even put a finish on it, just left it natural. It’s big and chunky and feels awesome with every shift.

That sounds great. I’ve got a wooden Porsche 917 replica shift knob sitting on my desk here at work. =) From the same guy that makes them for Singer!

Damn, that’s cool. You just waiting on the Porsche to put it on?
I am big believer in nice steering wheels and shift knobs. Those are the two biggest touch points and they ought to feel good.

Haha - yep! The dream is to own an old Porsche (356?) that the shift knob and a Mobil Pegasus on the fender wouldn’t look out of place in/on.
Yes, definitely. My old ‘05 Mazda 3s hatch, very much an economy car, got these things very right and had fantastic ergonomics. Makes such a huge difference.

My El Camino has horrible ergonomics, but a cool vintage 80's Grant wood wheel. The mini truck is like sitting on a milk crate, but the shifter feels good. And my C30 is comfortable and well built. It has a nice thick steering wheel, but they did an aluminum inlay that is awful and also gets as hot as the surface of the sun in the summer.
Good luck with the Porsche dreams!

Reasons to love (and hate) them all! Haha...
Thanks. My dad had a 356B Super 90 in the ‘ 60s when he was young and single, so Porsche is very much in my blood. One day.
