This FJ 45 showed up in the Indy area over the weekend. I hope it’s local and will appear again, but I doubt I’ll be so lucky.

Well sumbitch, I knew I recognized that logo.

Now even more frustrated the guy who shot that pic didn’t go investigate.

Not related, but there was a Wrangler with the R2.8 in my apartment complex. He moved out before I got a pic. Whats the opponion in that among Joop folks?

I generally dislike diesel as noisy and dirty, but broadly speaking Jeep fans and off-roaders in general like it because of the torque and added fuel efficiency (when you’re getting 10-12mpg , any relief comes as a relief).

Fred Williams, a fairly visible journalist within the community, put a Cummins crate engine into his TJ and has talked a lot about it.

So, I’d say of the people who have an opinion on it, you’d probably find general  approval.

Tube sock is great, but a jeep doesn’t need a diesel. Gearing, gearing, gearing. The cost of entry to the r2.8 would take about a million miles to pay back in fuel costs, and this is leaving out the additional maintenance and costs associated with a vehicle with a swap (of any type) .

There are many, many things we do to our Jeeps that don’t make financial sense.

Just Empty Every Pocket is the motto right? I just wouldn’t justify the r2.8 with fuel mileage . So many jeeps are geared wrong and could get a good chunk of their mileage back by selecting the right gears. My jeep is a rubi so I have 4.10's and am on the stock 31x10.5" tires and can easily average 16 -18. I have a buddy that is on 33x12.5's with 4.56's and he averages about 15 -17. I’d way rather spend $1k on a regear than spend $10k on the r2.8 and probably still have to regear the other way unless you have factory 3.08's.
