I drove a MANUAL W8 PASSAT WAGON TODAY. I’ve reached peak Oppo or Jalopnik. This is the unicorn Jalops want, but probably won’t buy.
This car gave me positive heebie-jeebies! In other news, driving this boosted dogleg machine for the last two days is giving me much joy. I’ve spent the day trying to adjust the headlights, and trust me when I say even though they won’t go back down, they’re more aligned than when I got the car last year.

I owned a straight piped w8 manual wagon or a bit.
Decent car, someone traded it in to the dealer and I used it as my car for a few months until it sold.

I had a manual V6 for many years and gave serious thought to supercharging it (to get it to W8 levels, but with a more reliable car). For some reason, I just couldn’t ever come up with an extra $4,000 to dump into it...weird.

I found an w8 auto wagon a few years ago for cheap. But my college budget at the time couldn’t bear that nightmare of an engine bay

The steering is excellent. T he acceleration is epic with power all the way near redline like a freight train. T he sound is unique as heck, smooth like a flat plane V8 from Ferrari, but with a traditional German V8 and more civilized than an AMG V8. It is the car jalops want but a unicorn unlike any other. Especially now that I know there’s only about 100 in the US.

Maybe someday I’ll pick up a Passat W8 just for fun. It would be a giant middle finger to my life as a car enthusiast who swore off all VWs after an awful B5 Passat.
Probably need to start my “thick skin” diet first. Thanks for sharing this!!
