The 63rd Paris Motor Show, 1976.

As for the title, that comes from a story my father told. Back in about 1960, he spent a semester studying organ at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. He and other music students from the US sailed to France onboard a Cunard Line ship, not sure which one. As the liner pulled into Le Havre, all the students, many from rural America, were gathered at the rail and one of the students called out, “Look at all the foreign cars!” Of course, “foreign” is a matter of perspective.

Kinda sad you didn’t even really need to put the year on that. One look at those cars and you know it’s the ‘70s.

“ Peugeot” , “ Renault” , “ Opel”, “Dunlop” , “Chrysler-France”? Huh, didn’t know that was a thing . Wait, “Matra”? As in Magic R.550, Super 530, SNEBs and Durandal -maker   Matra ? Didn’t know they made cars too. Neat.

Re: date. I’m a(n) historian at heart, so the date is always important. Maybe not so much for this crowd with this photo. I have to remember my audience!

I know, it was more a statement about how generally ugly and boxy the cars were than anything else.

There’s a lot of weird packed up in the Chrysler Europe and Rootes Group history.

What did Dad make of himself following his time at the Mozarteum?

He finished his BM from Oberlin, got an MM from Syracuse, then a DMA (doctorate) from Michigan. Then a life of university teaching, choir directing, and  performing. He is one hell of a musician, though at age 78, his performing days are mostly over.

Indeed. He accompanied my on my senior recital, and we’ve performed together a few times. He’s my musical hero.

Well, I’ve always wanted to know how to cut something out in PS. So it was worth the time. But I should be practicing for a show tonight.

I figured it was something like that.  The best time to take up all new hobbies is when deadlines approach.
