Sometimes IDing a car is the worst.

My younger brother sent me a picture with a “hey, what’s this”. Picture, not the above, of a ‘66 Plymouth Satellite hardtop with a straight body and originally deluxe (factory vinyl stripped off) out in a yard rusting. In the leaves.

I crashed one of those when I was five years old.

My house was on a hill with a steep driveway. I was pretending to drive. Back in the day you could put the car into park, drive, neutral, reverse, etc, all without a key. So I was turning the wheel back and forth and “shifting gears” with the lever and ended up rolling backwards down the driveway, across the street, up a curb, and into the corner of a building across the street. I knew I was in trouble from the panic on my mom’s face when I began rolling but had no idea what to do to get it to stop.

I don’t think I did much damage to anything other than to my mother’s psyche.

Goddamn I miss that c ar.

I once moved a ‘74 Benz by taking it out of park when young (9 or so?) . I did not crash it, however.

Let’s not be hasty. Maybe my younger brother can take this as his cue to become a masked yard ornament-stealing vigilante. But seriously, I can just imagine it being a Hemi, too.

I hope you’re right - but that unibody can’t sit in wet, rotting leaves forever.

Should be a crime if it’s a Hemi, or an R/T - and even a 318 car  is worth saving (TIL that they didn’t put the /6 in that car?)

The leaves are mostly on top of the car. It is mostly grass around the car. That being said, can’t see inside from the picture because there’s some algae/mildew on the windows. Weep. Don’t see a badge for submodel, but I do see the chrome trim which would suggest the factory vinyl top, as I said.

Ah, OK - I was picturing the unibody sitting down *in* the leaves, which is a disaster. Algae on the windows still isn’t a good sign though.

Someone (your brother) needs to rescue that car soon.

I drive by what I believe is a ‘65 Fury every day, which *is* kind of down in the leaves. I also know a lady who has a yardbound ‘57 Fairlane Crown Victoria.

*kicks dirt*

You can’t save them all...

For better or for worse, there isn’t much that I see sitting outside around me (up north and in the suburbs).  About a mile or two south of me are a couple of 70's Lincolns (the ones that are 9 miles long), and a DeVille.  Oddly the Caddy is almost directly across the street from the Lincolns.
