Red Datsun Fairlady Corner

The JCCS was back in Long Beach this past Saturday. I don’t know if any other Opponauts were there and done any photo dumps, but here’s mine. I was in a bit of a rush, so I only stopped at the cars that struck me personally.

That two door Datsun B210 wagon is really cool. We never got that particular configuration and this rare LHD one came from Costa Rica.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

That’s another Central American market Datsun. The amazing U620, a bizarro little ute that was sold in Japan and some Third World markets. I don’t know what the deal is with the skeleton.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

A 1963 Datsun Bluebird. These handsome little sedans, which were manufactured starting in 1960, were the first Datsuns to really sell in serious numbers. This RHD one came from Australia.

Kinja'd!!!

Pretty snazzy paint job on this 280Z.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

A nice 1977 Skyline Kenmeri 240K GT. There was a long description of this car that mentioned it was restored in Dubai where an L28 engine was swapped in and the car changed to LHD among other mods that make my eyes glaze over. There’s a bunch of stickers in the engine bay that tell the story better than I, or the sign could.

An adorable 1969 Datsun Sunny Vlb10 Pickup. I don’t know where this petite truck came from, but I believe they were sold in Hawaii.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Another cool non-U.S. market two door Datsun wagon. This is a ‘69 Sunny 1000.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Pao!

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Figaro!

Kinja'd!!!

A Mazda B1600. These are much more commonly found in Ford Courier guise.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

This immaculate 1978 Mazda GLC was in the top 3 for me. Amazing to see one of these in such great shape. At one time, they were everywhere. But, not many had that groovy stripe package.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

1975 Mazda Rotary pickup. It looks good with those wheels.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

This Toyota Crown wagon was pretty epic.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Speaking of epic, here’s a sexy red Toyota 2000 GT. I hadn’t seen one in that color before, but it looks good. I’ll take mine in white, though.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Every bit as sexy is the S800, the 2000's little brother.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

A very nicely sorted 1971 Honda Z600.

Kinja'd!!!

That is the first race car built by American Honda. It’s a 1970 N600 rally car constructed for the Baja 1000 that year. A suspension issue prevented it from finishing, unfortunately. I guess it would come apart every time the car got airborne which isn’t good for an endurance rally.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

A Honda Life Step Van. The proportions on this kei van are just fantastic. Surprisingly roomy inside.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

This Honda S800 coupe is amazing.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

The Vamos! Honda’s attempt at a VW Thing type thing based on the T360 kei truck.

Kinja'd!!!

This restored to better than new 1969 Subaru 360 shows up every year to blow my mind.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Those little guys are really wonderful to see in person.

Wow these are some really great cars! I wish I lived in an area that had shows of this caliber. I think if I could take one home it would be that Crown Wagon.

Good choice. We’re lucky that some of the manufacturers have headquarters near enough by that they bring some cars.

Somebody locally had been trying to sell a GLC wagon forever. I never really liked them that much, and suspect they must not have held up that well since they did sell a ton of them and they are very rare today, compared to say a Plymouth Champ, or Hondas or Subarus of the same era.

Man that condition of all those cars is fucked, espesh the Datto. these are such unloved cars, who’s doing full show-spec resprays!?

Love the pike cars and the AZ-1 mostly. I’m all about those 80s/90s

Good, decent people. They’re not unloved any more.

They’ve always been my favorite of the 3 door Japanese subcompact invasion. I think they were as reliable as their competitors. Just not as loved or ubiquitous as the others. You don’t see many B210’s around, either.

Absolute heroes. Inspires me to do the same. Does it matter if your Figaro isn’t worth shit, if it’s got flawless plum-colored paint?

Just give me a few more years...to get a house and start stockpiling cars. Then let the loving and appreciating start.

Certainly doesn’t. It’s  priceless as far as charm goes. And even on the market, they are worth shit now. Especially in America. Not a ton, but enough not to trash the poor thing.

I’m in the same boat, but I still managed to accumulate 3 cars.

If I did that they’d get towed away, there’s actually nowhere to put them. Price you pay for being <10km from Melbourne in a shit apartment.

Where do yours live? What are they?

That’s a pretty clean Pao there. The real winner here is that Crown though, look at that rear-est seat!!!!

Ah, yeah. I live in a shit apartment in  Los Angeles, but it’s not a dense city, so there’s parking. And I do have a garage for one car. I have a microcar called a Fuldamobil, a Citroën LNA, and a Volvo C30.

Oh my god that’s eclectic. I’m glad you’ve got space for them :)

That Crown was damn snazzy. I love that seat. Just like Lenny’s old Pontiac Safari Wagon.
