“I came to work today to find that the 2020 Porsche Taycan schedule has been updated.
The completion of the factory is ahead of schedule which means we will likely be driving your 600 horsepower Taycan in the fall of 2019.
Since we do not have the build sheets and pricing from the factory just yet, we will not be taking deposits.
It is unlikely that I will have any more information to share this year, but I will definitely reach out after the New Year unless there is news that simply can not wait.”

Interesting. Still wish I had more concrete news about the timeline for the Boxster Spyder...

Spyder’s tend to be stealth announcements and built in relatively low numbers, I agree they look awesome . I’ll live with my Cayman for the time b eing but I am very excited about the Taycan!

Me too!
My Cayman GTS serves as my current weekend car, with my 991.2 doing daily driver & track duties. However, given that I have decided not to track my Cayman at all (sentiment/OCD/whatever), I figure a Spyder is a reasonable replacement for it (a car that will never see the track). I definitely have my eyes on the Taycan as a future daily, as the 991 gets further shunted toward track use.

I’ve tracked my Cayman, however it has been a few years since I’ve abused her last. I drive it at least 4 times a week regardless of we ather conditions and the like.

Only mustered one weekend with the Cayman back when it was new (2016) before my OCD kicked in super hard and I found myself unable to track it again. It is relegated to weekend pleasure drives only now...no rain, no snow. The 991, on the other hand...

The only pricing I’ve heard is ~ $75k, but knowing Porsche that’s just the beginning of the C hinese- menu- ordering that will drive the price considerably higher. I’m reaso na bly certain about a few things though:
- The ordering experience will be pretty much straightforward once the configu rator is up & running
- The car will be delivered pretty much on time and will be a qual ity product without significant panel gaps or other obvious problems
- The car will rank high on initial quality, and over the long haul as a very reliable ride
- I’ll get my car before Elon is out of jail

$75 for a base would make sense, but I’m guessing it’ll be tiered like Tesla, having the S, GTS, and a top-tier model. I’m just wondering if they have the gall to call it the Turbo trim on their first electric car.

I have no doubt it will be tiered , however given their history I expect the different tiers to be available pretty much out of the gate. Porsche have been in the car business a long time and know how to do things right, I’m pretty sure there won’t be tents in parking lots.
The only thing that concerns me about EV’s is there really isn’t a standard for charging; for EV’s to become ubiquitous the charging infrastructure and physical charging ports on the vehicles should be an industry standard.

You’re like me, planning for an all-Porsche garage!
I have a 997.1 C4S, will be ordering a 2019 Macan S next month to go along with it. But I have also test driven and loved the 718 GTS and the Panamera....and the Taycan would also be a great daily for me though, since my company buildings all have free charging..

I lust after Panameras, and it occurred to me a base Taycan would be a good daily for me. Getting solar at installed at the house soon, and my company’s buildings all have free EV charging..

“ But what is the meaning of “Taycan”? Porsche characterizes it “Eurasian” since it’s based on Turkish, meaning “quick and lively like a foal.” To help everyone pronounce it correctly, Porsche sent out an audio file with the name announcement ( click here to listen ).”

hahah...I guess I am a fanboy...
My 2016 Cayman GTS serves as a weekend car - 982 Spyder to replace
My 2018 911 C2 serves as a daily/track car - staying put for now
My 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk is for the wife - lease almost up...Guess the manufacturer I am looking at for a replacement...

Nothing wrong with that, they build great cars!
997 is my weekender, but when I’m not working I don’t have time to enjoy it like I used to. Life has changed alot. Have a wifey and teenagers now. She also has a hard time getting in/out of it, and the Techart suspension is unforgiving.
Macan will be fun and we can use it for weekend road trips. But technically will be her car.
Pretty sure I’ll be ending up with three P-cars. I’m okay with this.

They really do make some awesome cars. I was recently invited to a “Porsche Experience” event at my local track, where I drove the 718 Cayman S, 718 Boxster GTS, 911 T and 911 GTS on the track. Also had a chance to autocross a Macan GTS and do street drives with a Macan GTS & Panamera 4 Hybrid. All of these experiences were wonderful, but the one that really shocked me was the Panamera. I have driven a Panamera Turbo on track before, but clearly the track environment masked the true lunacy of the acceleration and performance these things are capable of on the street. I was told by one of the driving instructors that the Panamera 4 Hybrid produces 513 lb/ft of torque when all of its gizmos are in “Sport +” mode. The launches it is capable of pretty much blew my mind. I’ve done launch control in numerous 911s over the years, but you EXPECT those cars to be fast. The Panamera basically terrified me on the launch...and it wasn’t even close to being the fastest one they make!
Long story short (we are well past that point), the Panamera 4 Hybrid has ended up on the short list for a daily driver candidate as well. That Taycan will have to be one hell of a machine to sway me otherwise.

Porsche names have been sucking for a while now.
Carrera - Hey, that sounds kinda cool.
Boxster - Just like the engine! Cool!
Cayman - A south american predator. Also a cool car name.
Panamera - Kind of ok, I guess
Cheyenne - ... like the city in
Wyoming? Ok, but why though?
Macan -
You didn’t even try here. Can we go back to the numbers?
Taycan - WAT. Go home, porsche. You’re drunk.
