Enterprise promptly handed me the key to this:

Kinja'd!!!

2017 Ford Focus. 38,000 miles. Hard miles. It smells like smoke, has coffee stains in the seats, and has dents/dings/scratches galore. Oh well. I got my son’s car seat to fit in it and I don’t expect to have it more than a few days. It’s better than what I was told I would be getting (a Nissan Versa).

Here’s a recap of what happened to my 6:

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

In other news, Allstate (the guy who hit me had insurance through them) is pretty cool. They had me send photos of the damage to them through their app and then did a next-day deposit of the estimate into my bank account. $800-something dollars.

Allstate quoted an aftermarket rear bumper but the shop ordered an OEM Mazda bumper from the dealer I take the car to for service. Oh well. Allstate told me the shop would contact them for anything above what they gave me. So, I have filed that under “not my problem.”

Living a hard, fun  life is not an invitation for body-shaming

I also just dropped my 6 off this morning. I had a little better luck and got a 300C as my rental from enterprise .

Certain insurance policies only cover aftermarket parts, not OE. I can’t remember if Allstate is one of them.

You may want to check with your insurance and see if they specify OE parts for cars within a certain age. If they do, you could re-file the claim with your insurer and have them subrogate to Allstate.

In that case, Allstate has to reimburse your insurer based on your insurer’s policies, not whatever Allstate wants.

Careful with that OEM bumper, the insurance company may not be liable to pay for that and if the shop installs it and only gets paid for an aftermarket one then they will ask you to pay out of pocket.

How bad is the transmission on the Focus?

Pretty much...laughably  bad. It shudders when accelerating and feels like it is slipping or like the car is going over several tiny bumps.

It may have just been the bumper guard they ordered. It’s only available from Mazda.
