SO YOU’RE TELLING ME IF I BUY A LEXUS, I’LL BE ABLE TO GET A LOANER CAR IF I BRING IT IN FOR SERVICE AT YOUR FINE DEALERSHIP ESTABLISHMENT? THIS IS A CONCEPT I HAVE NEVER BEFORE ENCOUNTERED, TELL ME MORE!

Pfft.
My Porsche dealer offered me a loaner while I get the 60k service done on my 911. It’s my first time spending any money with them besides on a key chain. (You don’t get to judge me. I collect ‘em.)
The 911 that I did not buy there.
Or from a Porsche dealer at all .

Hmm, ye', they are called courtesy cars, but if it's not convenient to take the car in for the service does your dealership not offer to come pick it up for you, drop off a courtesy car and the collect it when they bring your car back. My Skoda dealership does and they aren't even a particularly good dealership.

Most of the dealers I’ve encountered will, although our local BMW dealer only extended that privilege to people who bought a car at *that* dealership, so we sent ours to a dealer an hour away who didn’t care who you bought the car from.

Our local Lexus dealer is great. A lthough last time one guy followed me out to my car - slowly - and told me his life story and showed me photos of his family. I had to listen because he had my keys.

Yup, back when they were still Markel. IDK how they are now but at the time we sent our X3 to Husker Highline in Lincoln

At least they provide decent loaners. One of our local Porsche dealers has a fleet of Honda Odyss ey’ s as loaners.
Makes me think the running costs of a base Cayenne is too expensive for them. If they can’t afford it, maybe I can’t either.
My BMW dealer only gives out BMW loaners to people with cars still under warranty. It it’s out of warranty you get the cheapest thing Enterprise has available.

Wait they actually have service loaners? I thought they just specialized in terrible customer service.

Better than Alexandria VW. When you call in, th ey tell you they’ll give you a loaner. But when you get there, they tell you they only have a small number of loaners and they’ve already given them all out.
They’ve done that to me twice, the bastards. Now I just laugh at them and tell them to quit lying to people that they have loaners.
Sadly the joke is on me for buying a VW - but that’s another story...

Last loaner I got was awful. I just bought a brand new Denali pickup and there was an issue with the power steps and the wheels so they were being replaced the first week I had it. They sat me in a strippy GMC Acadia, it was just a total piece of shit car I couldn’t believe how bad it really was to drive. I asked the service manager to please not offer me a crossover ever again lol

Loaners aren't special in your area? My Chevy dealer refuses to give me a loaner for my $110 oil change that takes 3 hours. My Hyundai dealer acts like giving me a ride somewhere 15 minutes down the road is a massive favor (I guess it is better than the Chevy dealer though).

This is in DC, and I just moved here this year so I’m not sure. In Madison where I used to live, my experience with loaners is:
Mazda - some kind of Mazda was provided for warranty work, out of warranty you could “rent” the same fleet of cars for like $20/day
BMW - BMW provided for warranty work, I dunno about out of warranty, I’ve never been so silly as to take an out of warranty BMW to the dealer.
FCA - I took an old beater Jeep there a couple times for Stuff that was advisable to do at a dealership, they had a courtesy shuttle. I think they also would have arranged for a rental but since it was my beater I had something else to drive.
Subaru - Subaru provided for warranty work, no idea out of warranty
Generally I don’t expect a free loaner car at a dealership if a car is out of warranty that’s being worked on, and I don’t usually bring out of warranty cars t o dealerships unless I can’t avoid it. I'd rather go to an independent shop, pay less for the work and still come out ahead if I have to pay for a rental on my own.

VW, Honda, Volvo, Ford, Mazda, Dodge, &
Nissan. Some of the brands I’ve owned in the last 15 years. Best I’ve ever gotten is “
free wifi”
!! While you wait hours for simple service. Except the Nissan dealer. They would give you a loaner (very limited quantity
)
or special rate on rental across the
street if you asked at least 24 hours ahead. One time they had no rentals and gave me a loaner Versa
that a sales guy had taken home and was using to move. So off I went with his laundry, flat screen tv, dog food etc.

Wow.
I’m just amazed in general the number of dealerships where the owner uses his/her name as the title. It’s so egotistical. I mean, I get things like the “Hendrick Auto Group” which spans about 10 states and has a huge family name behind it. But I mean the more local ones where they could have just named it after the town, or just call it “Prestige Lexus” or “Reliable Lexus”

My favorite loaners came from an independent shop that also had a substantial sales business. If we asked, they’d loan us something, but it wasn’t usually one of the perfectly-detailed cars for sale. My wife came home one day (this was just a few years ago) in a loaner E39 530i with 245,000 miles on it, check engine light on, etc. but it ran great and was fine to drive. Just... not your typical loaner.
We also recently had a loaner from a Mini dealer, but it was for warranty work - and you better believe they had the dealer name plastered on the back window.

I remember in Madison there was a large auto body shop with locations throughout Wisconsin, where for a while they provided loaner cars, and those loaners were Crown Vics with big decals on them with the shop’s logo. A few years ago I actually had a car worked on at said shop, but they had long since retired those Crown Vics, so I just had whatever Enterprise rental my insurance paid for. Actually, I may not even have had a rental since I had 2 cars at the time.

My Kia dealer is supposed to give out Cadenza loaners for any K900 service, according to corporate. In practice, my dealer always says they don’t have any and gives me a stripped Optima. Whatever, I’m just glad to have a guaranteed loaner in this day and age.

It’s really nice. My mom drives an ES 350. When we take it in for service they usually give us an RX 350. If you make arrangements a month in advance a Lexus associate will bring you your loaner car and take your car in for its servicing. When it’s done they will bring your car back and take the loaner. And in this all your schedule was never interrupted and you got to experience a different Lexus vehicle. And this is in Lousisana so it’s not just a city thing. Small towns. Very small towns.

I’ve never taken an out-of-warranty BMW to a BMW dealer, except this one time that my power rear sunshade got stuck in the ‘up’ position.
My former indy mechanic closed up shop and I hadn’t yet found a new one. The only place in town I could find with a quick turnaround for an appointment wanted to schedule multiple hours of work to check it out and maybe replace it.
For some reason I decided to call the BMW dealer, they said “come on in and we’ll take care of that for you,” and they had a trick to get the sunshade to go back down. Basically one person sits in the back seat and gently pushes on the sunshade while the other person sits up front and pushes the button.
Of course, they told me that after they showed me an estimate to replace the whole damn shade assembly. Then they told me about the trick and said no charge.
Either way, I had already availed myself of the free coffee and cookies in the lounge.

My wife recently considered bu ying a Discovery, but the main problems I saw were land rover reliability + closest dealer 90 miles away. Salesman said no problem, when it needs service we’ll drive out with a loaner, service it and bring it back. I asked what if it’s broken and doesn’t drive? he said then they bring the loaner on a flat bed. not a bad deal. ended up getting a Yukon though. you can throw a rock on any street corner and hit a gm dealer.
side note: friend who works for Hyundai said anytime an equus needs service they go to the customers house and pick it up on a flat bed then bring it back. Hyundai can probably afford that since they only sold 5 or 6 of them...
and my Podunk used car dealership offers free loaners as well. they’re rusted and have 200k on them, but hey they’re free
