Back in 2012 my Civic got rear ended, I needed a car so I went to St. Paul to check out a couple I had seen on CL. While I was in the cities I found a 97 Integra GSR, it wasn’t green, it was a sedan, it was in the 2000 dollar budget I had as they were asking 2300.

I drove it, it was awesome! It was rusty it, it had obviously been in an accident. I didn’t care I wanted it. I got the price down to 1700 and then the guy goes to get the title. Then he tells me he’s in the middle of moving and he must have left the title in his other house. Looking around it did look like he was moving. He tells me he’lol mail it too me.

I took his name, phone number, driver’s license number, we wrote a bill of sale. Seemed legit.

2 week starts later no title. I call him he tells me it’s on the way, that was the last I ever heard from him, calls stopped going through, I’m guessing he used a burner pay as you go phone. Uuuugh. Evenly I traded the car for a 97 Accord to some one who wanted the GSR driveline for their Civic. The nice thing was since I bought it in  Minnesota the plates came with the car, so at least it had valid registration for the 3 months I drove it, just not in my name.

So was it a pain to register or something?

How to get shafted by buying a stolen car:

Step 1) Find Integra on Craigslist

Step 2) Don’t get title for said Integra

Step 3) ????

Step 4) Profit?

4) Accord ex sedan

Actually not that bad. I paid 1700 for the Integra. Drove it for 3 months, traded for the Accord drove it for 10 months and sold it for 1300. Not a huge loss.

Did you ever figure out if it was stolen? I would be very surprised if it wasn’t stolen.

The $300 323 I bought didn’t come with a title because the owner was moving back to Washington the next day, got a bill of sale and the wa registration, and he sent out the title after about a week. Besides the car not sm ogging everything was fine.

I did find out that the person I bought it from was no the last person who registered it. Sooo...

I was told that because I bought the car out of state that I had to have the title, however a cop that pulled for a headlight out told me I could get a title with the bill of sale. That didn’t help much because every DMV and courthouse employee I talked to said I was SOL.

U nless the title is completely lost the bill of sale is only good for proving you didn’t steal the car
