Took an s60r on a test drive today, and looked at a v70r. Everything I dreamed of and more. Comfort, style, dynamics. Passing on both because reasons. Driving home, what do I see? An S60r broken down on the side of the road. I’m sure that’s just a fluke.

In related news, there’s a gorgeous, super low-mileage BLUE wagon with a reconstructed title that’s totally fine. Everything’s fine. Everything works. Nothing will break and rack up a repair cost in the five-figure range. The dealership SPECIALIZES in reconstructed title Volvos. Perfect.

Save me from myself, Oppo.

I’d want pictures of collision damage before spending THAT much money on a reconstructed title, so I could take a microscope to all the affected areas.

i’m sure you’ve had this thought, but i’d see what made it reconstructed.

a little anecdote, when i bought my e39 touring it had a salvage title only because it needed both front fenders and doors to be replaced (original owner somehow got wedged between a truck and guard railing).  about 4k for beamer parts, car was only worth 5k a couple years ago when it happened, so they wrote it off, and sent it to auction.

I’ve had good luck with salvage titles in the past, but despite the nice color this VR is sending up some red flags. The seats are super worn for such low miles, and I’m unsure why it got the branded title, but I do know it was bought by this dealer from a c opart auction f or about $10k. If it was manual, and had a different interior color I'd probably go check it out regardless

Strange when they have quite a few decently priced SR’s in stock. I’d say they’re leaning HEAVILY on the low mileage thing, which means a lot less when paired up with the title

I don’t even want to talk about what the dream combo—this blue, orange-ish natural leather interior, manual wagon—is going for nowadays. At that point may as well consider a budget NSX

That wagon looks wonderful, but the price seems nuts. I mean the low mileage is great, but there’s plenty that can still go wrong especially in a car that’s been totaled. At that price, you are getting pretty close to the 2nd-gen S60 R-Design (I mean a few thousand more, but that’s closer than I would like for a 12 year old car).

Full disclosure: I drive a non-R 2006 S60, and it’s nowhere near as fun as my old S40. Just feels too big, and lacks the agility, even though the power to weight ratios are similar. I didn’t really look at the S60R before I bought it, there were some for sale, but they were more than I wanted to spend, higher mileage, and with the heavily turbo’ed engine, fancy suspension, and AWD, it just felt like there was too much to go wrong on a car that old. Also one had the orange interior, which I think was more gaudy than I could deal with.

I agree with most of that, but c omparing the R-design to the SR and VR is akin to comparing the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross to the prior gen Eclipses. (slight exaggeration, but the point stands). And yeah the potential costs of ownership are terrifying. I’ve seen plenty of examples on Swedespeed classifieds where the owner mentions the “$50,000 put into this car since I bought it”. Hoping to find a VR or SR that was taken care of by one of those super anal enthusiasts.

I actually drove a T5 s60 back-to-back with the R today. Both 2006 's I believe. I liked the T5 a lot, but the R was just an absolute hoot. It felt like driving an upper-market version of an STI. The orange is my top choice with a subdued exterior color, but that dark blue interior is quite snazzy too.

I’ve had an s60R, bought it through my dealer as a wholesale car, love it, ran great never gave me any issue, sold it because money is money and now I see it still driving around.

They can have issues, but if you’re getting it through a dealer who cares and went through the car in some capacity you should be okay.

You should get something like this  https://seattle.craigslist.org/oly/cto/d/1993-volvo-240-station-wagon/6695056641.html

From everything I have read about owning an S60/V70R you need to budget about $2,000 per year for maintenance. I would guess that doesn’t include the maintenance that has, to this point, been deferred. Were I looking for a P2 wagon or sedan, I would look for the a T5 Manual which can easily be built and tuned to the power of the R and which doesn’t have AWD. But then I live in a place where AWD isn’t needed.

Pretty cool cars. I have a friend who went from the P80 platform to the P2 and described it as “like driving a planet.”

I think I’ve brought up this before, but my friend is selling his V70R in Chicago. IIRC, $7500obo with 130k miles.

Oh god I feel the siren call of that car. That has to be the lowest-mileage R wagon in existence. But that title... find out why! Ask for pics! Get the VIN and google it!
