Most of those example’s look waaay too slow, less oppo turning initially and it’d still be fine if not quicker

Man, I really want to go to this rally school. 5 day rally school is $6k though. I think I might be better off buying a beater, paying for a bunch of rallycross, and still have a bunch of leftover money haha. Or just use the Miata with some proper rally tires and keep the $$$.

But yeah it would be amazing to go to that school some day. That or Dirtfish in WA. They do have a 2 hour course for $500 which is definitely more attainable.

EDIT: I did see this though on the Oneil page:
Just need a shit ton of oppos!

I tried to teach myself the Scandinavian flick in my pick up in high school. I was not successful. I didn’t put it in the ditch though, so that’s something.

All of the shots of the purple Fiestas are all footage of students learning the technique during day 1 or 2 of the school, that’s why they are so sloppy. With the footage from the 90 right of the WRX that’s the right approach for a FWD car (and a good line for demonstrating the technique) but if you wanted to be fast with the WRX you would tone down the initial turn out in favor of scrubbing speed with more slide through the middle of the corner.

I put one in a ditch. It was either put it in the ditch, get in a head on, or sideswipe a car and still probably get in a head on. When we came to a stop I tried to open my door to start digging us out, but the snow was up to the window on my truck, so I had to go out the passenger door. After a lot of digging and a half hour of another truck pulling me back and forth we got it out.
I also put a tractor into a ditch one winter while driving it from a buddies house to my place to move snow. Pro-tip: when you’re driving a tractor in winter wear ski goggles, otherwise the snow blowing into your eyes tends to blind you.

Rally school would be sweet, and I suspect at the end you would think it was worth every penny. But the thought of coming up with $6k for a week of driving school is tough to get your head around.

My wife got me a few days up there for my 30th birthday. I was able to make it into 4 days. It was awesome. I’ve also been back for an open session where they set up cones and just let you have at it in your own car. Most of the people doing that were just in their dailies, ripping it up. It was awesome.
Some of my classmates were into the Pro-2, Pro-4, Pro-lite (?) class racing out west, like, the Lucas Oil series, 800hp trucks. They were a riot, and fearless. But I held my own, the driving was much more like what I’m used to than what they’re used to.
