I’m looking at pricing on new 911s, which leads me to question what the “Most Jalop” and “Most Oppo” 911 is. Jalop, being slightly more mainstream, would probably go the the 911 Carrera T. Oppo, being broke, would probably go to the cheapest, the base 911 Carrera.
How I would option it: absolute base model, with no options besides a logo delete, in the best color that has no upcharge:
EDIT: Nevermind, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! is the most Oppo 911.

So don’t leave this broke Oppo hanging: how much would that be?

The most Jalop 911 would be a barely functioning 996.

Not new, used 997.2 Gen 2 Carrera S with the IMS issue solved, or if you want to take the risk, a Gen1 which will be like $10-15K cheaper.

Controversial, but I think the most Oppo non-new 911 is the fried eggs one. That or the cheapest Boxster you can find.

The answer is a Corvair Monza Turbo. Affordable, oddball, and it went turbo flat-six many years before Porsche offered it...hell before Porsche even offered a six-cylinder car!

Not terrible, especially for my favorite color. Still about 70k more than I’m willing to pay right now.

The Corvair is the best 911. The Chevette is the best 944.

996? I thought general consensus was that it was the “cursed one” and everyone hated that. Personall y i don’t mind the exterior looks but the interior is leagues better in the 997.
Doug seems to like the 996 though

I spec’d mine really close to your Oppo version. I got the Porsche logo painted, rear wiper, sport design mirrors (I don’t like the black on the mirrors and the sport design is $50 less than getting the black part painted.) I also got the smokers package and net in the passenger footwell because those options were free.

I don’t know if it’s the most jalop but it’s the one I’d go for. The only thing that bugs me about the 997.2 is the LSD was a rare option on the C2 , but standard on all the C4 variants.

The least expensive new 911 I would spec out would be a Carrera S ($105k). I would tick the boxes for Night Blue Metallic, Bi-Xenon Headlights, Rear Wiper, Heated Seats, and the Bose Sound system for a total equipment cost of $4,170. Total car cost is $110.
Which is why I am in the used boxter/cayman market and not the new 911 market.

Base model 996 with 125k, at least 1 accident on the carfax, 5+ owners and a noisy IMS. With a manual trans of course.

I find it funny how even in your analysis there is no mention of the manual GT3. Although all the keyboard racers all were so quick to condemn the lack of a manual 991 GT3, there is still no indication they ever bought the manual 991.2 GT3 when it was announced.

The most Jalop 911 won’t be a 911. It would be a 944 but if it HAD to be a 911 it would be a 996 911 with no options and ratty as all hell.

944s are too expensive now. They are indeed Jalop- but the most Oppo 911 would be something like a Fiero.

I was thinking more for the Jalop 911 since that’s the entire comments section every time any article about a car with a PDK is posted.
I would personally want a Miami blue 991.2 GT3 with a PDK with the black LED lights.

Can’t do it, cylinders are too vertical. A Subaru boxer would clearly be way too mainstream of a thing to swap in so for a more modern powertrain I think one would have to go with a later Alfa Boxer

Anything is possible with enough money. Also, didn’t Bisimoto throw a turbo Lambda V6 in a 986? I think it’s doable.

Oh I wasn’t talking about technically, I just meant it seems wrong to put an inline engine in a 912.

Since we are discussing new and the T has already been spoken for, I am going with the 911S with power kit to bump the HP to 450. Stealthy fast

Inaccurate article. 2005 997's are the ones with real IMS bearing issues.
2006-2008 have a larger, non-serviceable bearing but failures are super rare. My ‘06 has never shown any signs of IMS bearing wear.
2009 brought a new engine with its own issues...but true, no IMS, or IMS bearing .
Having said all that, IMS bearing failures are not, and have never been the big issue with the M97 engines. Nope, that would be bore scoring. But risk can be easily mitigated. Plenty of info out there on that.
Also, the market for 997.2's is crazy high right now.
