I am very excited. I think my minilites are coming tomorrow.
I am going down from my 15 inch wheels to stock 14s, and I am going from 7 inches wide to 6. Honestly, I am a little worried about how it i s going to look with smaller wheels, as I think the larger ones give it a more aggressive stance. But I was getting really bad rubbing from the tires being too tall and too wide. So I have to go smaller. I drive it too much and too hard to have that rubbing.
So I need help with tire recommendations. The car is mostly used for routine travel around town and road trips. I don’t need to cheap - I want quality and good looks?
Suggestions?

14 is very limiting.
FALKEN AZENIS RT615K+ - SIZE: 195/60R14
TOYO PROXES R888 - SIZE: 205/55R14
The Proxes are VERY track oriented. The AZENIS will probably look right and at $100ish/tire, you won’t feel back about beating on them. I think a 205 on a 6 inch wheel is a bit over sized.

Ooof... The market for 14" tires is really drying up. There isn’t a whole lot of options still made in those sizes anymore, especially for sporty tires that aren’t full on track or race tires.
What was the original tire size, and what are you running now? Same with wheel size and offset. I’m guessing you’re looking at something in the 185/65/14 to 195/60/14 or 195/65/14 to 195/70/14 type sizes.

The RT615K+ is an aggressive AutoX tire, those 200TW tires will wear fast.

What sizes are you looking at? I’m guessing at 14" it may just be a situation where you take what you can get. Quick looks says the Celicas of that era had 165/80R13 which would put your closest option at 175/70R14 though 185/65 or 195/60 would also work if you can go wider.
In any event, if I’m right about the sizes, you could do these:
though at 7.7" wide, they may be wider than you want. They also are probably too aggressive, but most other options on 14" wheels are not at all performance oriented.
There are lots of options at 185/65 but none look especially good, and you are even more limited at 175/70.

True, but they do hit quality and good looks. Yeah, they give up long life but this is a California car and in the 14 size you basically go from this to a chunky 70+ aspect ratio all season as your next step (judging from Tire Rack’s inventory).

The Alfa runs 14s and I found I had a lot better luck calling local tire shops than trying to buy online. 14s are cool, but also a thing of the past.

I’m well aware of the quality, I’m on my second set on my TA. They’re great tires, but they’ll be gone in a year if he’s driving it often.

Yeah, tires in that class rarely last but they look the part :D
I put that type of tire on my cars that I drive daily, but I never really know when I’ll end up in a canyon. I’ve just decided that I’m going to pay more in tires.

Yeah, both the TA and Miata are on AutoX tires, because holy crap are they fun . Also, since I walk to work I rarely drive either anyway.

Haha. Love it. My commute is short (32 mi/day and low speed) but sometimes we take the long route and then I’m super glad we have them. I also have a really great offramp near the house ;)
