My new 17 Camaro RS V6 manual is breaking in nicely. I’ve installed the GM performance intake and ordered the Flowmaster American Thunder exhaust.
It’s so hard to jud ge sound from video clips, but I like what I hear here. My car was purchased off the lot and does not have the factory dual-mode exhaust option, so aftermarket exhaust should open it up a bit. Actually, the factory base exhaust has a really good tone, it’ s just very quiet. I don’t know what GM did to make this V6 sounds so good, but it really does.
So far, the most impressive thing about the car is the V6 (and the chassis) . It loves to rev, sounds good, is blippy, gets good MPG, and makes really strong power up top. Factory rated at 335HP and the performance intake might have added 5 or 10HP. If I can get 5HP from the exhaust it will be close 350HP. It feels really responsive and has a good, useful amount of power. It isn’t enough power to shred the tires or win any races, but it is enough to have fun on the street and really make the car move. I can wind it out to 7000rpm and have fun without launching into hyperspace mode. The car weighs around 3300 pounds. The cool air we’ve had lately is very noticeable too - as a NA motor it really likes the cold air.

with 335 hp, a cold air intake and freer flowing exhaust you should be up to around 335 hp by now! Truthfully intake and exhaust restrictions aren’t what they were on new factory cars, and even then they were never worth 10 hp. What you bought was sound...which is fine with me...and maybe a few peak ponies if the weather is just right, but don’t get too amped with “claimed” numbers. if you did gain, its very unlikely you will ever feel it or have it born out in numbers outside of the placebo effect.
Does sound nice tho

I like the V6 Camaro, the AWD challenger, and the ecoboost Mustang for one reason
The fact they exist pisses people off

Yeah, the exhaust is mostly sound. That’s OK though, it sounds good!

I had an auto v6 as a rental. I can confirm 335 HP is enough to shred the tires.
Even with the auto, I did like driving the car. It sounded good, made a little blip noise when I shifted, and the chassis was really good. Complete and utter lack of storage would probably keep me away, though. However, if I could find a 2017 in that Kermit green with the track pack (1LZ?), I might be swayed haha
The v6 really is perfect for a road car. You don’t need 400+ HP for the street

Yeah, the V6 1LE is a nice combo of handling upgrades with the V6. It’s a rare car though - not a lot made as most performance people go for the V8. I agree on the V6 being a good road car engine. I can use more of the performance and it is fun to drive.
It might sounds strange, but I’m thinking either the V6 or the big dog ZL1 supercharged V8 is the way to go. The SS 455HP is a lot, and if I’m going for excess why not go all the way to the ZL1! The V6 seems to be in the sweet spot for useful and fun power.

Dude. Get a tune from Trifecta. It will be the best 500ish dollars you spend! They will take into account your exhaust and air intake and easily make that thing put out 180 or more HP.
I had a 2012 RS V6 and with exhaust, CAI, and Trifecta tune my car absolutely shredded!!!

Muscle cars are V8's. Plain and simple.

Sweet car. At u pper rpm it does sound pretty good. Like most v6s though at lower rpm with a more open exhaust.... it sounds like a tractor. Which is what youll sound like all aroun d town. Sorry. Sweet car though.

Because 650HP can be way too much on the track in mixed talent company.
Besides, what you want is the handling upgrades and such, so SS 1LE, which is the equivalent of the Corvette Grand Sport.

I really like the SS 1LE. It is very tempting. I’m not a huge fan of the 19 redesign, at least in pictures, but need to see it in person. The ZL1 is unchanged and looks better to me (in pictures).
The problem with the V6 is that the SS exists. And the problem with the SS is that the ZL1 exists. The ZL1 is about $20k more than a SS 1LE, which I’m not sure is worth it. $20k is about what my discounted RS V6 cost!

If I was going to spend an extra $20K on top of what I paid for my ‘18 SS 1LE, I’d be in a Vette.
