Oppo, I have to have an MRI at 7:45 am tomorrow and I took the day off of work, partly because I have nothing to do and partly because I haaaaaaate needles and I’d like to do something pleasant afterwards (it’s a contrast MRI, so...yuck).
Suggest to me thing s that aren’t overly expensive and don’t involve a huge amount of physical exertion (I don’t want to go hiking, for example).
Is there a museum/historic site/restaurant/?? y ou think I should check out?
Ellie says hello!

I won't say too much about contrast MRIs, but the one I had was a weird experience. You can actually feel the contrast flowing through your body. It was pretty gross.

I hope everything comes back good. I hear the contrast feels really weird though when it starts flowing through

I wish you the best tomorrow! I don’t know where you are located so I can’t be specific but I like hitting a nice diner or something and then maybe a movie at home or in the theater to relax on an off day

Now I want to cry. I was on morphine the last time I had one (8 years ago) and I reaaaalllllly do not want to deal with this.

Just pretend you’re Magneto/Polaris when you’re experience the magnetic flux?

I’m in Denver. Thinking maybe the Botanic Gardens if I’m feeling up to it, but who knows.

Just breathe, and remind yourself it's not a bad thing, and it won't last forever.

It’s not as bad as a CT scan. That requires barium sulfate contrast, usually consumed as a really bad smoothie. I’m big enough that it takes two shakes to get a full dose of the contrast. After nearly getting sick on them, I switched to taking it as a liquid right before the scan.
They also give an iodine-based contrast via injection.
Best of both worlds....
Good luck on yours!

Sorry, that probably wasn’t helpful. It doesn’t hurt as far as I know though, just an odd sensation. You’ll be okay.
Here have a relaxing image

Eeeek wait iodine contrast isn’t for MRI, is it? Now I’m frantically googling. I’m allergic to betadine but not sure what ingredient...

What you could do is to drive 100 miles to pikes peak, though you shouldn’t do that.
I’d do that, but I’m an idiot.

I want to just hide my head in the sand and ignore all of this. But I do want to go to wherever that was taken!

Believe it or not this is in Wisconsin in Door County. I do hope everything goes well for you though, I know these things aren’t easy.

As far as I can tell, they use gadolinium, not iodine, for MRIs . I think this is what they use during CTs for people allergic to iodine who can’t control their reaction with benadryl and steroids.

Not a bad idea, really. I’ve been up Pikes a few times but haven’t done Mt. Evans yet, and I haven’t been to Idaho Springs in awhile.

I recently went to the V ehicle Va ult down in Parker and had a good time. Not a lot of cars in total (2 dozen maybe?) but what’s there is beautiful.

Hmm, I don’t think I had to do anything with contrast for the CT scan (really a series of CT scans) I had to do (presumably because they were just looking at bone). On the flip side, I did have them poking my but with a needle for like two hours because they couldn’t quite get it into the joint they were aiming for.

Hope your MRI goes well. The contrast was not a huge problem for me when they did my shoulder. It was unpleasant while they were injecting it, but as soon as they finished getting it in there I felt fine. Hopefully it goes as smoothly for you.

The Forney museum of transportation is neat. I went to Botanical Gardens last year when I was in Denver. It is certainly worth a stroll around. The Federal Reserve also has a small museum downtown, and they give you a free bag of money. With everyone normally wanting to go see the Mint, the Federal Reserve has an off the beaten path kind of feeling for downtown Denver.

Ouch. On mine they were looking at soft tissues. The bones were just in the way. It was funny, when they would push the iodine contrast, I did my best to contain them, but I always sneezed at least twice.

I’ve been trying to get an honest assessment of what that place is! The internet hasn’t been very helpful.
You also just reminded me that a coworker keeps telling me to go to the Shelby museum in Boulder, but I guess it’s only open Saturdays .

Thanks! I’m completely squeamish about needles used to inject anything (besides tattoo ink, but that’s different). I don’t think I’m going to sleep well tonight.

Oh , good reminder, I should see what the current exhibits are at the Forney. I haven’t been there in years.

The Vault seems more an event venue first and museum second, but they did have a Topolino and a gorgeous pre-WWI Fiat on display. So there’s that.
Maybe the Forney Museum ? No personal experience but it’s on my list
Yeah, unfortunately the Shelby Museum is only open Saturday. Last time I went a few months back they had one of the Daytona Coupes, though.

I had a meltdown when they stuck me, only I wasn’t allowed to move, so that was great. The needle hurt like hell though, and then the contrast felt cold.
