There’s just too much yet to do.
Things keep coming up, both project and non-project related. And neither I nor my brother are willing to get sloppy in order to meet that one-year deadline. It was a nice goal, but we’re getting close enough to that point to admit that we’re going to have to extend the deadline. If only we had more spare time to work on it.
Anyway, the new deadline is “by winter”. By winter, the engine and transmission will be back in the car with fresh gaskets. It will also have fresh axles, new wheel bearings, overhauled brakes, and some fresh suspension parts too. And all the other stuff we’ve done- the overhauled fuel system, etc. Yeah, it’s gonna be in good shape. I can’t wait.

Deadlines come and go. My first one was “by winter” (started in July). Then it was “by the end of the summer,” then “by 1 year,” then “by the Saab route 66 drive” then “by the Talimena drive.”
Nice thing is that you have a deadline, even if you don’t meet it. Also wouldn’t be a bad idea to set up a reward of some type. Nice bottle of [preferred alcohol] or something like that that you can only consume/ experience after reaching your goal.
Related: Project Dumpster fire is back on the road again. (I’ll probably do a update tomorrow, it was a big weekend and I have like six things to write up).
And he made a new friend! (not mine)

I think just having t he car running i s going to be its own reward. And it’s going to be a reward for both of us. M y brother doesn’t know how to drive a manual yet, so I get to be the first to drive it.
T he tires are crap, so much so that we won’t be able to limp it to the tire store. T he wheels are going to have to be transported another way, then brought back to be put on the car. I’ll then take it on a shakedown run, and once I’ve verified that it runs and drives healthy enough, it can go in for an alignment. After that, I can drive my brother to a safe place and teach him how to drive stick on his own car .
