I grabbed the Miata to go meet up with a date. She cancelled when I was 75% of the way there. I figured I would take a nice drive through the hillsas a consolation prize on the way home. Buuuut   the car started losing power at 3k RPMs. This only happened for about 3 minutes but I captured it on video.

This was full throttle. It didn’t feel like a clutch slip - more like pulling timing. I had just idled for about 5 minutes (checking my phone maps) and did this about 4 times before it stopped. Any ideas what I should look at?

weird - definitely not clutch slip, it doesn’t look overly hot, sounds fine (just doesn’t want to go,) confused 02 sensor?

I’m wondering if it has something to do with the MAF. The internet says bad plug wires but those are almost brand new.

Is it firing on all four? Coil packs are a super common failure on miatas. Besides spark at the wires, looks for signs of one of the coil packs arc ing to something nearby.

Plugged cat? Checked your air filter recently? It may sound silly but I changed the air filter in my roommate’s juke last weekend to correct a non-start . Breathing wildfire smoke for three weeks straight had it plugged solid.

Air filter could use a check - that’s a good call. Not sure about the cat though I imagine it’s not very healthy.

It could be a few for things... but for something that comes and goes away, I’m thinking the throttle position sensor could be the culprit
