Penn & Teller have a show called “Fool Us” where magicians come on and try to do a magic trick that Penn & Teller can’t figure out. If the magician stumps the duo then the magician gets a spot in P&T’s Vegas show and a trophy that rather appropriately looks to say “FU” until you get close.
[I’ll mention now that if you want to skip the cheesy magician intro
bit at the start and go straight to the trick jump forward about a minute in the videos]
This one (below) is
my favorite, because Penn was (or at least pretended to be) absolutely irate. And with good reason. Penn & Teller performed a variation of this very act on the Today Show the previous week, and they
still
couldn’t figure out how this one worked.
Kimlat came back in a later season and demonstrated how to technically lose but still win.

Shaun Farquar’s two appearances are fantastic, too.

I’d seen the second one before, but I forgot how great Penn’s facial expression was when Shau
n revealed it wasn’t memory
or
a book switch

Fell down this hole a couple months ago and haven’t come out yet. Don’t intend to come out anytime soon either.

Somehow I never bothered to watch any of this show until now. Part of me was expecting the premise of the show to be that P&T would explain the trick to prove that they weren’t fooled. I’m kind of disappointed to see that isn’t the case. If they wanted to, they could just sit there and claim that they knew how the trick worked. That’s probably not happening here, but it’s an annoying little seed of doubt that’s constantly in the back of my mind. But I suppose it’s a good thing that they’re not exposing a bunch of good illusions.

Yeah, the problem is they don’t want to go ruining everyone’s tricks, a lot of magicians wouldn’t be cool with coming on a show that could wreck their livelihood. They do sometimes openly make guesses, but typically they’ll give their guess in code so that the performing magician will know if they’ve figured it out or not without the trick being revealed to the audience. A great example of this came with Paul Gertner’s second appearance. If you go to 8:15 you’ll see what I mean
