It seems to be the theme of the day.
I was going to swap out the door lock cylinders since I don’t have a key that works with the ones in the door. I started with the driver side, took off the door panels, got in to where the lock cylinder is and noticed that there was no connection between the cylinder and the rod that goes to the locking mechanism. After pulling the cylinder I searched around inside the door for the pawl that is supposed to be there with the assumption that the clip had come off and it had fallen. Nope. It’s just not there.
Bonus fuckery. I didn’t find the pawl but I did find this:
That’s the mechanism for a remote mirror. This car doesn’t have remote mirrors. The door panels don’t have the bezel for remote mirrors. This car didn’t even have two mirrors. Sigh.

Did I mention that in grand GM fashion there are two versions of that bracket? Luckily it’s a $5 part so I just ordered both. I’ll figure out which one I need when I get them.

All I can think of is the passenger door was replaced (that side was definitely hit at some point) with one without a mirror. I still don’t know why that adjuster was left in the door, though.
