I’m likely buying this thing. It’s fine. No AC (whatever, I have 2 others with it) no keyless entry (it unlocks like my D100!) , no auto headlights. But it is a nice car, comfortable with an awesome price and warranty.

Off to look at a 2018 Kia Forte LX. 6MT, $12K CDN ($9146USD) and 27km (16 miles). Brand new. A little out of my $10.5K CDN budget, but I think worth it? Input?

Low price, but I guess nobody is buying base model manual 4 door sedans anymore.

Remember, this is just a piece of equipment for work. Not a fun car or something that I will feel anything but slight contempt for.

I feel slight contempt already - it’s perfect..

A friend replaced her civic with one as a high mileage to and from ft Mac work driver. I asked her how it was after a year and she couldn’t tell the difference.. I guess that is a positive  review!

They’re alright, manual is decent. Th eres worse but also better options on the market

Sure, there are better options, but at the price? I gotta cover this + insurance with my car allowance

That’s a killer price on a perfectly fine automobile. I have an in-law and a co-worker that have these, both with the manual. They seem to like them and haven’t heard of any major problems. Base model means less things to break.

Exactly, base model means no fancy screen or anything. But, same warranty and build quality!

It’ll be no drama, and under warranty.   6MT will make things more fun, as long as you don't have to drive in downtown Van much.   Probably a sensible choice.

I would say go for it. Seems like a terrific price and a warranty so no worries if shit breaks. It’s also so cheap that a few door dings and rock chips will not bother you at all.

Honestly, the base models are the best buys nowadays. A/C still blows cold. Radio will still have bluetooth and aux jack and whatnot. Seats are comfy enough. I loved the old recaro seats in my FiST but not a single way in hell was that radio “upgrade” to the SYNC unit worth the cost for the privilege. Especially in the FoST where it is 4k to get the seats and stereo package? For a unit that still crashes and has bugs galore?!?!?!

Dude, go for it. You’ll never love it but maybe that’s a good thing. ANd you’ll always know it’s there for you. Don’t know if it’s the same in Canada but the koreans offer a 6-year 100,000 mile warranty on their cars in the US. Pretty good deal IMO.

I was going to throw a curveball suggestion of the much uglier Nissan Versa sedan which has a lot of room inside and surprisingly good steering, but Nissan doesn’t sell it in Canada, go figure.

I also figure I’ve had assorted base model Hyundai & Kia products as rental cars and they’ve always been fine enough. Not exciting, but honest unpretentious cars that get the job done and are generally pretty quiet and comfy.

I get along fine without A/C on my car, but I live in a semi rural area....not much slow driving around in towns or traffic jams, so with the windows open, the climate control set to cold and the fan on high, it’s cool enough for me to be fine. Maybe not supremely comfortable, but certainly not “Oh my God, why do I do this to myself” unpleasant.

D efinitely would probably be a need for you living in the city...

I’m guessing that this is what they call the Cerato...I drove one and it was a fine car apart from the lack of sound deadening.

Base model manual S of the new version is going for 20 grand drive away here but that’s with AC and some active safety features

I know in the traditional sense the Versa is not a *good* car, but somehow the couple times I’ve had them as rentals in the past couple years, I’ve found myself respecting it. It’s cheap, comfy, roomy, good on gas, and I actually like the steering.

No AC? Looks like a Canuckistan thing, US models appear to have it standard (and are a bit more expensive). Have fun out in the valley in the summer!

Yeah, valley summer I think I will be taking the ST still. But at least 8 months of the year it will be OK. Saving a lot of wear on my little Fiesta.

(Only I would buy a 2018 new car to preserve my 2014 with 100,000kms on it).

FYI t he headlights are probably on the ignition circuit. Even if you leave them on, they probably turn off with the key - my current 2009 Hyundai Accent has that, so I can’t imagine they removed that feature on Hyundai/Kia’s newer models. So, there is no way to accidentally leave them on.
