Been looking at replacements for the truck once it sells.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Thinking a Jeep would suit us well. Something I can buy, add some mild off-road goodies, then drive everywhere.

Waiting to see what Carmax offers us, I may just leave it there if they’re in the ballpark. Then I’ll start looking harder.

If the truck sells this week I think that’s the one I’m going to checkout.
Nice enough for daily duty, not so nice I’d feel bad taking it off-road.

If you ge t a Wrangler you could drive it for 3 years, and sell it for what you paid for it.
Cherokee’s are a good choice too, but I would stay a way from Grand Cherokee’s

Honestly can’t see my self driving a Wrangler.
I love the Cherokee, always have, but the Grand would be nicer for carrying the fam. Why stay away from Grands?

The Grand Cherokee’s tend to have more reliability issues, and aren’t as sought after as the XJ’s.

Huh, mind if I ask what?
We’ve had a few in the family and they’ve all been excellent vehicles for them.

Where do I start! Everything from engines and transmissions to electrical. I would only suggest getting one with the 4.0L I6. Stay away from the Magnum V8's. On the otherhand they are pretty cheap now, so I guess you could roll the dice. There’s plenty out there to scavenge parts from.
If it was me I would look for a regular 4.0L Cherokee with no power windows or door locks. Simple cloth seats > tattered leather. Glass/sealed beam headlights > yello wed plastic lenses.

Interesting.
Things to look out for. I like the more basic Cherokees better personally, but one like that 97 Grand would be alright as well.
I wonder how much of the engine/trans issues stem from how they were maintained? Like I said, there have been a few in my family and none of them gave any issues to speak of. I believe one was a 4.0L, which needed a valve cover replaced around 150k, the others were V8s and gave no mechanical trouble til well over 200k?
I always appreciate other points of view. My family has always been pretty tight in Chrysler vehicles with good results, but they are all meticulous on maintenance as well, so that likely helps as I know the majority of owners are not.
