If I were serving in or near the Trump Whitehouse — perish the though — and I wanted to pen an anonymous OpEd for the NY Times, for sure, I’d massage the style and pick a word or several like
lodestar
to throw people off my scent. This is shaping up to be some great
political
theatre. Is it possible that institutions like NY Times (and maybe Nike?) are waking up and fighting back?

Lodestar?
That sounds just like the kind of word that my brother, Ted Kaczynski, would have used!
I personally like throwing fun words into serious conversation. Like
kerfuffle
.

I enjoy using real words turned into fake words. For example, I would call you a kerflufflist. Instead of calling a boxer a pugilist, I’ll call him a pugilizer. I called my cop friend an arrestitician. Makes my english major wife completely insane, lol... I also use the term gribbledeeskribblewitz at the end of sentences as an affirmation. As in “That was pretty freakin awesome! Gribbledeeskribblewitz!”. Because I’m a twelve year old boy genius trapped in a 44 year old body.

love that they are giving Trump 25 to 1
when we all know it’s not him, there was complete sentences, and no made up words.
50 to 1 odds for Conway and Melania
I would like to think it’s John Kelly because...

Nike wants to sell more slave-labor-produced product. While I applaud them for giving Kaep an enormous platform; one must also remember #Brands are not our friends, and Nike wants to quietly move on from their corporate harassment debacle as well as their continued use of what is effectively slave labor to make their product.
I do not begrudge Colin for agreeing to partner with them. His message is prescient and crucial to our country’s continued growth.

Nice. I personally love creating custom portmanteaus (call me The Portmanteauminator, aka Albee Bock ). And of course, the most OG of Dad Jokes, the mondegreen .
I’m a few years younger, but hopefully you remember back in the 80s there was a series of books called
Sniglets
that would be right up your alley (partly the brainchild of comic Rich Hall).

Best theory I’ve heard here in DC: things are about to get much much worse for the GOP, and this is a hail mary to try and salvage some sort of political future beyond the revelation of that information. If someone isn’t pushed out in the next few days over this, you can be assured that was the goal.
Though I have been in a Lodestar, so maybe it was me?? Probably not though, as Oppo is a more rep
utable outlet
than the New York Times.

How many times have we seen this? WH staffer, writes saucy book, gets a few days of news coverage, makes a sizable chunk of $$$, then disappears. This op-ed seems like the pre-cursor to yet another saucy book.
The way to stop this from happening is for the public
to stop buying books.

Not even Patagonia? I troll. But I like your point(s). A thinking person
cannot be all of one thing or another, but a compound of multiple things. For me, for my part
that’s about social justice and restoration, the Nike/CK thing is spot on. But just for that piece, because exploitation and profits and all of that. I get it. It also pokes 45 in the eye, and the spiteful part of me is okay with that bit. But is any of this
constructive? Methinks not.

Or stop reading the news. Good morning.
I see the current POTUS as a ten-year-old boy who keeps poking a hornet nest with a stick and crying like a baby when he is repeatedly stung and then blaming the hornets.
But to your point, I hadn’t thought of it: once that guy is outed, then he can resign and write a book. I think you’ve called it.

Trump has by far the highest number of ex-staffers of any president in his first two years. However, he probably also has the highest number of ex-staffers with million $$$ book deals as well.
Working for him isn’t as bad as it’s portrayed. Just wait your turn to sell out and go on a book tour.

But there, too, he’s brought it upon himself, says I. All of this Me First thing, the shill. Honestly? I think President Trump views his base as a bunch of suckers and fools. For that matter, he may very well view every human that way who is not President Trump himself or Pa Trump.

Patagonia is at the very least neutral. I’m sure with some digging one could find some questionable production practices. They do however put their profits where their mouth is, and for that I respect them.
Is this Nike ad campaign a perfect middle finger to our Mango Fascist? Yup, and I also find some pleasure in knowing it will hurt his delicate fee-fees.

I think Trump views himself more like the Godfather. Very family focused, all of his kids are along for the ride. Ex wives not so much. The concept of loyalty is very important, he will drag those that are loyal to him upward, and do his worst against those that are perceived as disloyal.
For the voter base, he needs to appeal to single issue evangelicals, hence bringing Pence on board with his anti-abortion nonsense. I don’t think he views voters as suckers, more that he honestly wants to make things better for those that vote for him and screw over those that didn’t. Look at the tax reform as an example, people in NY and CA were the two states where individuals were most likely to see a tax increase.

Did you ever watch the program Caligula that PBS put together like 40 years ago? In that show, partway through, Caligula decided a bunch of his generals were disloyal and had them all put to death. I hold a perception that hitching one’s wagon to President Trump is a dicey proposition. Other than writing books later, how can there be an upside?
And the evangelicals. I see that lot as a group who see themselves as arbiters and enforcers of what they see Christ having wanted, to the point of proclaiming which religions are true and which are not. And then
they follow about as un-Christlike a man as I could possibly imagine. The same is true of followers of the judicial appointments. These folks are concerned about judges, but will proclaim they wouldn’t care it President Trump “robbed a bank” so long as he keeps appointing those judges. Maybe I am naive and this is run-of-the-mill politics, but gosh: it seems hugely disingenuous to me. And I wish someone could help me understand how and
why the Merrick Garland appointment wasn’t a blatant political
ripoff. I don’t get it. I am happy to accept a cogent explanation of any of those
, but so far, I haven’t gotten one from anybody.

Both of those two are full on thermonuclear politically once Trump is gone . They’ll probably fail into some cushy corporate job at a GOP connected firm, but after Trump they’ll never work in politics/government again. That is if they avoid going to jail.
