I’m dog sitting, and I never wanted to be that kind of person who liked animals more than people, but I’ve never met a person who I could give an ice cube to and they would think I’m the greatest fucking thing in the universe.

I need a puppy.

My friend has a rescue puppy from Afghanistan. The poor thing took awhile to getting used to having regular meals. I showed up once and offered her a beef treat. She followed me around and laid her head on my feet whenever I sat down. It was so sad...

I like my two greyhounds more than a lot of people. My oldest greyhound got me through some things a lot of people could not.

About a week before I went to Uzbekistan on a survey, my Boxer died. At my hostel, there was this Rottweiler mix that, rightfully, hated everyone and was chained up in the yard. I fed that dog better than I fed myself, and by the end, I’d scare the shit out of people buy drunkenly sitting with him in the dirt, despite the fact that we all knew he’d probably rip my face off.

I remember doing a walking survey of this one farm, and this guy had the cutest puppy who would follow him everywhere, and he loved that dog.

I love traveling in Islamic countries, but I have an impossible time with the treatment of dogs. For all I know, everyone is right, but I’d rather be in hell with a dog if I had the choice.

My former neighbors (who are now my tenants’ neighbors) are OG/hardcore Pakistani and have gone through three dogs in about 10 years. All of them have died from some form of neglect. I’ve called the Humane Society on them multiple times, but there’s only so much that can be done if the animal’s basic needs are being met...and the owner lies a little.

Not picking on cultures, just certain dirtbag aspects of it. My grandmother was from a small fishing village in Eastern Europe and only bathed about once a week because it was how she grew up. And it was wrong.

I’m in the bag for cultural relativism , like you wouldn’t believe, but I don’t think it’s wrong to call out people for that shit. I’ll tell my friends that they can come to a dinner party and accept that there’s going to be alcohol, and I’ll tell someone that if they mistreat a dog, I’ll fucking kill them.

Shit, i wish. My hound/lab mix wants 3-4 walks per day, then will growl at you from 8 to 11pm everynight to play/let him out/I have not f’ing idea what he wants . But he wants to be by people, so you can’t leave him outside, because he’ll just start barking to come back in.

yeah, if you make yourself responsible for the well being of a living thing, you damn well better hold up your end of that deal. Fortunately most of us in this country see our pets as “friends” and not objects.

I’ve never understood why people would get a dog, cat, rabbit, whatever only to neglect it.

I’ve let my wife know that when we buy a house the only housewarming gift I want is a retired greyhound.

We went to a charity event recently for a local service dog organization, and there was a greyhound rescue there as well. They had 8 dogs there, five that were up for adoption. I fell in love with one named Wyatt.

Yeah, cultural relativism has a place, live and let live is usually the way to go. But, there are some things that are just so horrible that they need to stop immediately, regardless of how ancient the custom - things like female circumcision and honor killing rape victims.
